The aim of the experiment is to reduce the large amount of ineffective evaporation in inland arid area plain reservoirs by using polystyrene foam plastic slabs floating on the water surface. By doing many field experiments and systematic theoretical analysis, the paper derives a theoretical calculating equation on floating slab. Firstly, the optimum geometrical, physical, mechanical parameter is determined by the method of probability analysis and physical experiment. Secondly, the author do field experiments under eight different experimental schemes and analyse the results. Then, based on reasonable hypothesis, using the theory of Hydromechanics, Aerodynamics, Wave Mechanics and Mechanics of Elasticity and Plasticity, the author derives three different mechanical models on floating anti-break slabs. In addition, using numerical analysis the study calculates the mechanical models under complex boundary condition and by using difference method concludes the calculating equation on deflection and inner force of the rectangular slab under mixing boundary condition. Finally, the paper works out the structure of the slab under the joint wind wave action by using the former three mechanical models. The results are consistent with the field observation. It is proved that the models are reasonable. So it can be applied in the similar engineering calculation.
