Municipal sewage reclaim Tech. are being utilized widely in China, special in water resourceshortage area.A novel technology named gravel contact oxidation reactor (GCOR) used for treating municipalsewage was studied in this test. The results indicated that:(1) It was possible for treating municipal sewage;(2) DO and HRT are main running parameters for this experiment;(3) COD removed rate was more than 90%, and the qualities of effluent water reached thestandard of wastewater reclaim in China when DO was 4-8mg/L and HRT was controlled at 12h,respectively;(4) The period of biomass cultivation was 8-18d, and the thickness of biofilm grew on thesurface of the crushed stone globular aggregates was about 0.1-0.2mm with light brown color. Alarge amount of micro animals included prozoa and metazoa were detected by microscope;(5) there were no excess sludge discharge during GCOR running.Based on pilot test, the possibility used GCOR to treat sewage in quantity 35000m3/d wasdiscussed from running process and both of construction cost for this engineering project and itsrunning cost. The result indicated that construction cost was 39095175 yuan and running cost fortreated one cubit meter sewage was 1117.0 yuan/(m3/d), cheaper than normal bio-treatmenttechnology.
