The Clinical Investigation Of The Childhood Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Pneumonia With TCM And Experimental Research Of Its Mechanism

The mobility of childhood RSV pneumonia in the different societies was variable,because of their development degree. It was the highest one in developed countries. Forexample, according to the data from 1980 to 2000, infecting with RSV is the firsthandcause of admission and beyond 130000 children was in hospital for this disease. In China,developing with the society and the medical care, the mobility of childhood RSVpneumonia was growing. In some large cities, it was more like that of developed countries.RSV is also the main pathogen of virulence pneumonia in the cold seasons of our country.The childhood RSV pneumonia is serious most of the time. If the patient is too young,especially the infant, or it is premature, or there are development malformations in itsrespiratory tract, its prognosis would be bad, some of them may be die.Childhood RSV pneumonia is part of dyspnea and cough due to pulmonary heat inChinese medicine. Previously the scientists of our department have studied in this subject.They found that more than three quarters of RSV pneumonia children are of the syndromeof phlegm and heat obstructing lung. The manifestations of this syndrome included highfever, restlessness, rale, thick viscous phlegm, polypnea, flaring of the nose, or cyanosis,greasy and yellow fur on the red tongue, and slippery and rapid pulse. The mechanism ofthis disease is wind warm evil toxics intruding from the exterior to the interior, heat andsputum stagnating in the lung, and then the pulmonary qi is blocked. There is someguidance in treatise of febrile disease like that someone be with dyspnea and sweating, ifthe temperature is not so high, we can use the ma xing shi gan compound. According to thisguidance and the character of this syndrome, our department adds in some herbs. Then thatis the qingfei oral liquid. In the clinical trials of beforetime, the therapeutic effectiveness of qingfei oral liquid arm is superiority. Therefore, to promote the functional activity of thelung, to remove the phlegm and detoxification is the effective therapy for the syndrome ofphlegm and heat obstructing the pulmonary of childhood virus pneumonia.The object of this program is to make sure the therapy of childhood RSV pneumoniawith TCM, and to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of qingfei oral liquid for childhoodRSV pneumonia, and then we conduct the experimental research for its moleculemechanisms. There are 144 subjects with childhood RSV pneumonia, who are from 3months to 6 years old. The treatment group, which are 79 patients, receive qingfei oralliquid and one or more injection without the antivirus drugs. Otherwise, the control group,which is 65 patients, receives ribavirin injection and placebo oral liquid. The results of theclinical investigation then generated after the statistics course. Qingfei oral liquid group issuperior to control group in the improvement of the main symptoms, like cough, rale,auscultation, appetite, and tongue, and X-ray. However, in the improvement of some othersymptoms, it is not advanced. Nevertheless, the integrate effectiveness of qingfei oral liquidis excelled than that of the control group.We also implement experimental studies by serum pharmacology measure with theChinese herbs. With observing the cytopathy, we found that qingfei oral liquid could protectthe cellulas attacked by the virus. However, it cannot preserve the copy of RSV.Finally, we concluded that to promote the functional activity of the lung, to remove thephlegm and detoxification is the effective therapy for the syndrome of phlegm and heatobstructing the pulmonary of childhood RSV pneumonia. Qingfei oral liquid is an effectiveand safe compound for the syndrome of phlegm and heat obstructing the pulmonary ofchildhood RSV pneumonia. It cannot inhibit the copy of RSV, and protecting the cellulasmay be its mechanism. Nevertheless, more mechanisms are waiting for the advancedresearch.
