Military medicine is a special kind of medicine to maintain, restore and promote the health of soldiers, so as to achieve the purpose of protection, regeneration and improvement of the combat effectiveness. Military medicine originated from the needs of the war, and was based on the general medicine, whose science and technology was used in military activities. With the progress of science and technology and the development of biomedicine, new subjects of military medicine are constantly crossing fusion; at the same time, changes in the development of weaponry and military strategy continue to put forward new problems of health service needs and medical support, for this reason, the development of military medical disciplines is more and more stronger and more special. Military medicine is based on the general medical science; whoes fields of life, health, disease and injury provide the basic theory of physiology and pathology, which is an important part of military medical knowledge. On the basis of that, the development of damage repair mechanisms, working physiology, regulation factor and health service is the solid foundation of military medical. The military medical knowledge develops not only along the depth direction of medical science, but also toward the horizontal direction of military science knowledge development. The special needs of the field of military medicine make military medicine show some characteristics different from general medicine, so as to enrich the military medical knowledge system. Military medical knowledge system is a complex system with multiple factors, multi attributes, shapes polymorphism, linear and nonlinear effects. Traditional knowledge organization methods such as classification and thesaurus are one-dimensional, which are difficult to uncover the multidimensional complex knowledge system of military medicine. Therefore more scientific and advanced technology is need to organize military medical information, and to achieve the computer obtaining and understanding, and knowledge representation, from which to draw military medical knowledge, leading to the formation of a truly complete knowledge management system.Ontology originated from philosophy, which was introduced into the field of knowledge engineering in 1990 s. It contains the core knowledge of special field, and describes the domain concepts from semantic and knowledge layer, by building conceptual model framework. Ontology can be used to explore the implicit or ambiguous knowledge, and to realize the sharing and reusing of domain knowledge. As a kind of knowledge organization method, ontology has been paid more and more attention. The method can design the classification system of domain knowledge and describe the relationship between domain concepts, according to the characteristics of military medical subject knowledge, to fully display military medical knowledge and its relationship, to organize military medical knowledge and information resources multi-dimensionally, visually and dynamically, and to promote the interaction, analysis and use of military medical knowledge. The key research contents and conclusions of this thesis are divided into four parts.Part1: The theoretical and practical basis of ontology research. This part is focused on the ontology origin, concept connotation and classification, comparing 7 kinds of ontology construction method and 3 kinds of ontology representation language, and analying the construction standard of ontology tools, to provide the theoretical and technical support for the military medical ontology construction. Three types of typical general top-level ontology, four types of typical foreign biomedical ontology and two types of typical domestic biomedical ontology are compared and analyzed, to lay the foundation for ontology reuse.Part 2: Theoretical research on the construction of military medical ontology.Firstly, the relationships between the general top ontology, the general medical ontology and the military medical ontology are compared, and the related concepts of the construction of military medical ontology are clarified. Secondly, the necessity of the construction of military medical ontology is expounded, and the current situation of military medical terminology is analysed in detail by comparing four types of term standard and summarizing the existing problems. Finally, the difficult problems of military medical ontology construction are analyzed according to complexities of military medical knowledge, military medical concepts and their relations.Part 3: Methodology research on the construction of military medical ontology.Firstly, by analyzing the characteristics of military medical knowledge, the principle to be followed by military medical ontology construction is pointed out, which contains the common principle of ontology construction, the general principle of medical ontology construction, and special principle of military medical ontology construction. And then, according to actual situation of military medical knowledge organization, the methods of military medical ontology construction are proposed, which mainly include ontology method, literature metrology method, semantic analysis method and expert investigation method.Part 4: Demonstration research on the construction of military medical ontology. In this part, based on the theoretical and methodology research on the construction of military medical ontology, military medical top-level ontology is constructed as an example, and the military medical top-level ontology model framework and the relationship between the concepts is designed. Firstly, the steps of military medical top-level ontology construction are proposed, which consist of six steps, including determined the research field and scope, reuse of the existing ontologies, selection of the core concept set, the establishment of the military medical top-level ontology model framework, the definition of the semantic relationship between the top-level ontology model framework, and the axioms of the top-level framework. Then the UMLS semantic network is reused. The top terms of the military medical thesaurus and the keywords of military medical literature are selected as the core concept set of military medicine, and the semantic types of military medical top-level model framework and their subordinate logic are designed. On the basis of inheriting all 56 kinds of semantic relations of UMLS, two sub-domains, military medical equipment science and nuclear protection medicine, are selected as demonstrations to establish the semantic relations of military medical top-level ontology. Military medical treatise and literature of the two sub-domains is selected as the text set to establish the top-level semantic relations. Through the text analysis, the relationships between the concepts contained in the text set are extracted, so as to establish the military medical specific semantic relations. Finally, from two aspects, the rationality of the military medicine top-level framework and the applicability of the semantic relations, the results of the construction of military medicine top-level ontology are evaluated. One method is driven by data, to verify whether the military medical top-level ontology model framework covers all experimental data. At the same time, the concepts of the top-level model framework and the semantic relations between the semantic types are complemented. The other method is the expert investigation method, to evaluat the methods used in military medical ontology construction and the results of the military medical top-level ontology construction. According to the experts’ opinion, several parts of the military medical top-level ontology model framework are revised.
