The thesis mainly discusses about the conservation and restoration of Japanesehistoric buildings.Japan promulgated the relevant law for culture conservation since the middle of19thcentury. In China, the safeguard for cultural relic and historic architecture wasrecognized since the late Qing Dynasty, and later the law of protection of cultural relicwas enacted in1930. After50years, the law of the People’s Republic of China on theprotection of cultural relics was enacted in1982.The thesis starts from the changes about the Japanese repairing standard, discussesthe general technique situation the history for the craftsman, asset for repairing, thetraining manner coming down through the craftsman since the old and developed in themodern times, the situation developed to keep to work, and the conservation methodsfor the historic circumstance, and then comes to the conclusion.The author has been working on repairing of some historic buildings in Japan formany years and wrote many repair reports. The author understands the reparationsystem and operation of Japan, based on which, discusses the historic architecture repairmethod in Japan.In addition to the repair examples and system above, thesis also explain thepersonnel training and materials which are important in the repair career.The most important part in the historical architecture repairing is the design andsupervision. Meanwhile, research method, determination of the ancient material,traditional joints pattern are also talked in the thesis.As to the principles, Japan and China both pursue to repair as what it was. In therestoration of historic buildings, mainly based on Japanese situations and adding someChinese examples. Especially, in the6thcapture, the author used many examples whichinclude some projects the author participated in to explain the Japanese method of thehistoric buildings restoration.
