Rumor: The Shadow Of Social Communication,

This dissertation applies a first-step study to the rumor and rumor control. Rumor is "a story or statement in general circulation without confirmation orcertainty as to facts", when people are in great demand of information to fill the gap between their anxiety and the lack of information from normal media channel, they are likely to be susceptive to any information, hence the rumor is accepted to serve this purpose. In this way, rumor is not only the information that needed, but also the hidden attitude of the mass to the collective emerging of uncertainty.As another channel of information , rumor and the information of the official channel--such as mass media--is in competition, but in the combination of news , rumor can also do some help. On the other hand, as the opinion in the shadow, rumor is an important element in the emerging of public opinion, which is a big challenge to "the Spire of Silence".To rumor control ,the open channel to the information and the opinion is needed. What's more, there's some different measures to take for different kind of rumor.
