This article study on the wave of salt-buying frenzy in most areas of China after the3.11Japanese Earthquake, Based on the three-stage theory of Allport and Postman which isomission, prominence and assimilation related the spread of rumors. And it construct thefour-stage model of rumors changing which is infecting, latent, outbreaking and disappearing,which further reveals the deep operating mechanism behind the salt panicThis article total has five parts. The definition of the rumors is reasonably defined in thefirst part. Rumor is a social evaluation system caused by the potential social problems,collective consulted by publics, appearing in the form of news, officially controlled andguided. This definition stressed the information function and normal social evaluationfunction of rumors while the opinion of taking rumor as malicious slander is abandoned. Ithelps people to correctly interpret the rumors.The second part analyzes the process of rumors generated, indicating that it is the resultof multiple reasons in which different communication channels where rumors generatedindicates different intensity of rumors outbreaks.The third part which is the key part of this paper studies the rheology of the rumors. Thestarting point of the study is investigating the change of its elements of each stage,constructing the mode of its transmission and seeking the obvious rule from the microscopicview. The study shows that grumbling rumors is the main part at the "infecting" stage,misunderstood rumors become the main part at the latent stage, panic rumors become themain part at the outbreaking stage and people gradually return to rational at the stage thatrumors disappearing.In part IV, the author further analysis the behind control force of salt panic generatedusing the method of intensive reading symbolic text and media narratology concept. Studyshows that signans malposition and designatum’s negative effects and generalization are theimportant reasons for people to believe rumors. Besides, people confuse the differencebetween everyday life the narration and the media narration is the deep reason behind.Part V focuses on rumor control. Changing the appearance of rumors, explaining topeople why they believe rumors and the secret motivation of those transferring rumors is agood choice to control it. And also, this article gives different principle of control rumors foreach stage.
