Objective: To study the regulating functions on the signal conduction transmitters in the hippocumpus area of Alzheimer's disease by electro-acupuncture, and develop the mechnism of electro-acupuncture on it.Methods: The senile SD rats were taken as the researching subjects, and AD model was built by cutting off the fimbria of the hippocampus. Acupoints like "Baihui"(Du20) , " Yongquan"(KI1) , " Xuehai"(SP10) ,"Taixi"(KI3) were electro-punctured according to the therapeutic princile of "Tonifying Kidney and promoting blood circulation, Reviving brain and inducing resuscitation". The effects on improving the study and memory ability of AD model rats was observed, and the regulating effects on signal conduction transmitters in hippocampus, were detected by using radio-immunoassay and immuno-histo-chemical method, which treated by electro-acupuncture.Results: The activities of ChAT in septum, PKC\PTK\cGMP\nNOS in hippocampus of the rats were reduced obviously after cutting off the fimbria of the hippocampus, meanwhile accompanied with the disorders of learning and memory. Electro-acupuncture could improve the activities of nNOS in hippocampus and ChAT in septum, encourage the activities of PKV\PTK of membrane in hippocampus tissues effectively, and promote the learning and memory abilities of AD model rats. Conclusion: Electro-acupuncture could improve the learning and memory of AD rats, and its mechanism may be that acupuncture could encourage the activities of nNOS\PKC in hippocampus, and that of ChAT in septum. Thus, electroacupuncture could be applied for AD as an effective treatment.
