Chronic Prostatitis (CP), a commonly encountered disease of male adult, is a clinical syndromes with the main effect of dysuric symptom and bladder genital area pain. It seldom comes on before adolescence but easily occurs between 20 and 50 years old. It is estimated that the incidence rate of CP among the adults in the world is 9%-14%. In China, the pathological incidence rate of CP is 24.3%.The influence of CP to the quality of life is further more severe than that of benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostate cancer as the lack of deeply researching to the pathogeny and the mechanism of the disease, and the lack of satisfactory treatment effectiveness. Therefore, it is necessary to make deep researching to the diagnosis and treatment of this disease. The clinical signs and symptoms of CP can be divided into 5 parts: 1, the stimulation symptoms of lower urinary route: frequent micturition, urgent micturition, painful micturition. 2, the obstruction symptoms of lower urinary route: urination weak, seeming urination and not finishing urination. 3, the pelvic pain symptoms: hypogastralgia, the pain of perineum and ejaculation, orchialgia. 4,dysgenesis: libido reduction, impotence, ejaculation praecox and infertility. 5, mental and emotion aberration: it expresses the extra mental tension, dysphoria, melancholia and insomnia. In addition, the CP can be divided into 2 kinds of parts according to the National Institute of Health of United States: the Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis ( Type II ), the Chronic Non-bacterial Prostatitis/The Chronic Pelvis Pain Syndromes (Type III ). The cause of CP has not been definated up to now. Generally, it is thought that CP is related to micro-biological infection, urinary returning and self immune reaction, pelvic vegetative nervous diorder and psychological factor.CP belongs to the scope of JINGZHUO in the field of TCM. It locates in the JINGSHI and JINGQIAO, which is related to the kidney and bladder as well as to the liver, lung, spleen, heart and SANJIAO. Its mechanism character is: the deficiency of kidney as the fundamental cause, the dampness, heat, stagnated blood and QI, poison as the incidental complications. There are definite advantages and effectiveness in treating CP with TCM, especially the compositive method, which can improve the syndromes and get satisfactory effectiveness, also be utilised popularly. The following problems are found through analysing the recent years' literature: 1, the name of the diseases and the causes and mechanisms are not standardized, either the differentiating types. 2, the standards of diagnosis and effectiveness are not consolidated. 3, the clinical research designs is not precise, and few of them keep to the principle of randomization, control and blindness, few of them describes the follow up and adverse reaction. 1 Clinical epidemiology investigationThis project is trying to analyse the distributing disciplinarian of the CP's syndromes and types in TCM, and discuss the internal relationship between the biological character index and the CP's syndromes and types in TCM, with statistic and clinical epidemiological methods to observe the distributing frequency of the TCM syndromes and types, and the appearing frequency of biologicalcharacteric index among the different syndromes and types of TCM. The result of this project will enrich the content of TCM analysing and differentiating pathological conditions and provide the scientific and objective index to clinical analysing and differentiating pathological conditions. This investigation has collected totally 1322 cases. It is found that the CP is mainly the syndromes of downward drive of dampness and heat into the lower portion of the body cavity (92.44%), and stagnation of vital energy and stasis of blood (85.02%). Further more, the two kinds of syndromes always occurs incorporatively (78.59%), with some cases associated the syndromes of deficiency YANG of the kidney (15.73%). The syndrome of the YIN deficiency of the liver and kidney always occurs with associated sy...
