Digital transformation is an important trend in the current global new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, and an important means of promoting agricultural modernization. The outline of the "14th Five Year Plan" emphasizes that it is important to accelerate the construction of a digital China and promote the modernization of the national governance system and management capacity. The successful transformation of digitalization is indispensable for improving the management ability of agricultural production efficiency, which can ensure national food security and achieve high-quality agricultural development. Therefore, this article studies the production efficiency of different provinces in the context of digital transformation, which has important policy guidance significance for the cause of "agriculture, rural areas, and farmers" in China, and provides practical significance for resource investment in underdeveloped areas. This study first took agricultural production in 31 provinces of China as the main research object, and analyzed agricultural production efficiency and its influencing factors in the context of digital transformation from both theoretical and empirical perspectives;Secondly,a three stage DEA model and Malmquist index were used to conduct static individual analysis and dynamic trend analysis on agricultural production efficiency; Finally, using OLS regression to analyze the influencing factors of agricultural production efficiency in China under the background of digital transformation. The research conclusions are as follows:Firstly, from the perspective of individual differences, the overall situation of agricultural production efficiency in China under the background of digital transformation has maintained a high level, but there are significant spatial differences between regions, with a gradual increasing trend in the east-west and north-south directions, that is,the agricultural production efficiency in the central and western regions is significantly lower than that in the northeast. After removing environmental variables, the comprehensive efficiency value in the central region is significantly underestimated, while that in the eastern region is overestimated.Inefficiency in the western region is mainly caused by scale efficiency, while that in the northeast region is caused by pure technical efficiency.Secondly, from the perspective of dynamic trends, the changes in the national average comprehensive technical efficiency change index and scale technical efficiency change index in the context of China’s digital transformation have generally converged, and pure technical efficiency needs to be improved. However, there are significant differences in the distribution of China’s total factor productivity index.Provinces with high change indicators of technological progress are mainly concentrated in the eastern region, while those with low indicators are mainly concentrated in the central and western regions.Technological progress has a significant impact on driving productivity growth.Thirdly, from the perspective of influencing factors, the development level of the digital economy and rural financial credit have a restraining effect on China’s digital production efficiency, which reflects that China’s digital production tools have not been effectively utilized, and farmers largely rely on traditional experience to engage in production activities. The government’s support for agriculture, regional development level, and urbanization rate have a catalytic effect, indicating that further strengthening financial support for agriculture, increasing investment in rural infrastructure, accelerating urbanization construction, and promoting local economic development are effective in improving agricultural production efficiency. Finally, based on the research findings, this paper proposes policy recommendations for improving agricultural production efficiency in the context of digital transformation in China: first, strengthen the construction of digital infrastructure in lagging regions, and narrow the information gap between urban and rural areas;Second, enrich financial support for agriculture projects and improve the financial market system;Third, increase investment in agricultural technology research and development, and attach importance to agricultural technology research and development and transformation of innovative achievements;Fourth, vigorously develop vocational education for farmers and improve their digital comprehensive quality.
