Since entering the 21 st century,Georgia’s economic level, industrial development and foreign trade are in a stage of rapid development, and China and Georgia have formed closer trade relations. In recent years’ trade exchanges, the trade volume of Georgia’s agriculture and animal husbandry and other advantageous industries is high, but the proportion of machinery and transportation is low,and the problems of trade structure imbalance and slow growth of trade scale are highlighted. Therefore, the trade between the two countries shows a wide gap between the competitive and complementary levels of trade in different sectors,so China and Georgia should further optimize their trade layout and explore their potential trade potential. The trade between China and Georgia has always maintained a large surplus, which has obviously improved in recent years.Especially after the "the Belt and Road Initiative" was proposed,Georgia’s advantageous industries will inevitably have some impact on China. This study focuses on the competition and complementarity between China and Georgia in terms of trade, and aims to explore the advantages and disadvantages of trade between the two countries, providing opportunities and suggestions for their development.Using trade data from 2009 to 2021,and using the trade competitive advantage index, dominant comparative advantage index, trade complementarity index, and intra-industry trade index as evaluation indicators, this paper conducts an in-depth study of the trade competitiveness and complementarity between China and Georgia through multidimensional quantitative analysis. In terms of trade competitiveness, the trade competitive advantages of China and Georgia are reflected in different sectors, with China having higher comparative advantages in capital-intensive,labor-intensive and resource-intensive industries, while Georgia’s competitive advantages are mainly reflected in resourceintensive sectors;however, with Georgia’s industrial transformation and upgrading in recent years, the trade competitiveness of Georgia’s capital-intensive industries has been However, with Georgia’s industrial transformation and upgrading in recent years, the trade competitiveness of Georgia’s capital-intensive industries has been increasing, which in turn inhibits the increase of China’s trade competitiveness. In terms of trade complementarity,in the early stage of trade, since China’s industrial system was more complete than Georgia’s,China-Georgia trade exchanges played a good role in promoting the improvement of Georgia’s trade complementarity level, but Georgia’s trade was more inter-industry trade, and China’s intra-industry trade level was higher;with the gradual development of Georgia’s industrial system,Georgia also achieved a higher level of capital-intensive industries level of intra-industry trade, and the level of trade complementarity has been increasing. On this basis,a study on the influencing factors of trade competitiveness level and complementarity level between China and Georgia is conducted, and four factors, namely, economic level, industrial structure, consumption demand and labor resources, are selected for regression through theoretical analysis, and the results of the study show that economic level and consumption demand can play a good role in promoting trade competitiveness and complementarity between China and Georgia, while industrial structure and labor resources The results show that the economic level and consumer demand can contribute positively to the trade competitiveness and complementarity between China and Germany, while the industrial structure and labor resources can positively increase the level of trade complementarity between the two countries, but somewhat inhibit the level of trade competitiveness. This may be due to the fact that the industrial structure and labor resources of the two countries have a large gap,and the process of industrial transformation and upgrading does not fully coordinate with the trade structure.Based on the empirical results,we will provide targeted policy measures to promote the economic and trade cooperation between China and Georgia, and accelerate the economic and trade cooperation between China and Georgia as well as the Belt and Road region. |
