Since December 2019,COVID-19 has spread from China and gradually broke out on a global scale.The epidemic is repeated and difficult to control,which has caused unexpected changes in the global economic and political environment.Many international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund(IMF)believe that COVID-19 has caused a global economic recession and hindered economic cooperation of various countries.As a large manufacturing country,China had many electrical companies that actively developed overseas business before the outbreak of the COVID-19.After the outbreak of the epidemic,The overseas market environment they faced have undergone earth-shaking changes.As the decision-making center of the entire company,the senior management team determines the basic direction of the company’s internationalization path and the efficiency of emergency measures after the outbreak of COVID-19.Therefore,what kind of characteristics of the senior management team can help electrical companies in an orderly emergency response to alleviate the impact of overseas business and the main path for the senior management team to play a regulatory role in COVID-19 has become the main research content of this article.Based on this,this paper first uses the overseas main business income of 142 listed electric companies in the first two quarters of 2019 and 2020 to study whether the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 has had a negative impact on the overseas performance of Chinese electrical companies;then divides the professional background of senior executives into academic background、overseas background and financial background and discuss the adjustment effects of these three occupations on the negative impact of COVID-19.Finally,through the successful case of Sun Grow’s overseas main business income growth during COVID-19,it specifically analyzes the specific path of the executive team of electrical companies in adjusting overseas performance when responding to COVID-19 and summarizes the moderation model of the executive team’s response to the public health emergency.The empirical analysis results show that the new crown pneumonia epidemic has indeed caused a negative impact on the overseas performance of Chinese electrical companies.The overseas operations of our country’s electrical industry have been damaged due to the outbreak of COVID-19.At the same time,the academic background of the senior management team has a significant moderating effect on the negative impact of COVID-19 on overseas performance.In other words,the academic background of the senior management team can effectively alleviate the negative impact of COVID-19 on the company’s overseas performance.However,the overseas background and financial background of the senior management team of electrical companies don’t have obvious effects on the improvement of overseas performance.Through the analysis of Sun Grow as a case,it is found that the adjustment effect of the senior management team with academic background on the negative impact of the COVID-19 is not only achieved through emergency measures after the outbreak but also through the internationalization path that the executives have planned for the company for many years.The emergency decisions made by the senior management team using their academic knowledge can effectively alleviate the internal risks of the company caused by COVID-19 so as to maintain the smooth operation of the company’s overseas operations during the epidemic.The overseas resources accumulated by the senior management team using academic knowledge for the company can help the company is enough to respond to changes in the macro environment after the outbreak of COVID-19.Based on the conclusions obtained,this article proposes relevant suggestions from the perspective of the government and the enterprise to help electrical companies recover overseas operations as soon as possible and at the same time preventing public health emergencies in the future from causing negative impacts on companies’ overseas operations again.From the perspective of the government,relevant policies should be actively formulated to help damaged electrical companies resume their overseas business as soon as possible.At the same time,the government should encourage scientific research talents to enter electrical companies.From the perspective of a corporate,electrical companies should increase their attractiveness to talents with academic backgrounds in order to attract outstanding talents as reserve executives.When making international strategic decisions,the senior management team should also make full use of their professional advantages to accumulate strength for overseas operations of electrical companies to prevent such incidents from happening. |
