As China’s regional integration process continues to accelerate, economic factors converge and flow between cities in different ways, making the economic links between cities increasingly close, leading to the gradual development of spatial organization structure towards networking, thus forming a network of economic links.Meanwhile, the rapid development of the economic linkage network plays an important leading role in promoting the internal circulation of the economy and improving the quality of regional development. An in-depth analysis of the influencing factors and spillover effects of economic linkage is of great significance in promoting regional linkage development and building a new pattern of network development.Hubei Province occupies a special position in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River city cluster. In order to create an important node of domestic large circulation, the regional development layout of "one main leading, two wings driving, and all-area synergy" was proposed by Hubei Province in 2020.This strategy is an important initiative to promote coordinated regional development in Hubei Province. Therefore, this paper takes 16 cities in the One Main and Two Wings strategy of Hubei Province as the research objects, measures their economic linkages from 2007 to 2021 by using the modified gravity model, analyzes their network structure characteristics by social network analysis, and finally constructs an econometric model to study the influence and spillover effects of network structure characteristics, city control, economic development level, factor diffusion and agglomeration capacity, and industrial structure. The main conclusions of this study are:(1)The overall economic ties of cities in Hubei Province are on the rise year by year, with proximity-based economic ties dominating, showing a spatial pattern of dense east and sparse west in terms of regional differences.Meanwhile,a development trend of multi-center city radiation and regional sub-network response has been formed,in which Wuhan city has a strong radiation effect and Xiangyang city and Yichang city have a relatively weak radiation effect.(2)The economic linkage network has formed a circle structure with Wuhan as the center and radiating outward from inside, its overall centrality is decreasing and the network development tends to be coordinated. In terms of control capacity,Wuhan and Xiangyang have stronger control over neighboring cities, and Yichang’s control capacity improves significantly in 2021.Moreover,a total of four cohesive subgroups have been formed within the overall network, with obvious grouping trends.(3)Among the influencing factors of economic linkages, point entry degree, city control power, economic development level, factor diffusion and agglomeration capacity, and industrial structure in the network structure characteristics positively influence economic linkages, with the strongest influence of industrial structure factors and the weakest influence of city control power. And besides the point-out degree in the structural characteristics of the network, other influencing factors have positive spillover effects in space and actively contribute to the formation of urban economic linkage networks.Based on the above research findings, this paper puts forward a series of suggestions in terms of optimizing network structure, shortening economic distance, clarifying city positioning, giving full play to location advantages and strengthening industrial division of labor,in order to promote coordinated network development, improve transportation network system, enhance economic development, and strengthen spatial synergistic cooperation of inter-city industries while accelerating factor diffusion and agglomeration.
