Homestead has basic land use functions and can provide one or more services to society within a certain period of time.As the main user of homestead, whether the potential value of homestead is valued and exploited by farmers, and whether the efficiency of homestead utilization can be improved through various measures in the daily production and life of farmers, not only by micro factors such as individual characteristics and awareness of farmers, but also related to the regional background and characteristics of the village. Therefore, exploring the functional evolution and formation of homestead from the perspective of farmers can help broaden the research on homestead from a micro perspective, and also provide a basis for formulating relevant and effective management systems and methods for homestead.Based on the perspective of farmers, this paper divides the different functional requirements of homestead into basic security functions, economic property functions, and retention functions.Taking Meihekou City,Jilin Province as an example,a stratified random sampling method was used in the form of a questionnaire, combined with the DEM data of Meihekou City,to collect yearbook data.Using the spatial analysis function of Arc GIS,combined with the functional intensity measurement of homestead, and using a multiple classification logistic regression model, the final analysis is conducted on the layout of villages and the functional evolution of rural homestead, summarizing the mechanism of functional evolution of homestead. The research results show that:(1)From 2010 to 2020,the basic security function of residential land showed a downward trend, while the economic property function and retention function of residential land showed an upward trend.(2)From 2010 to 2020,the basic security functions of rural homesteads in Meihekou City showed significant changes and agglomeration characteristics, and the basic security functions remained transferred to economically underdeveloped hilly and mountainous areas. The spatial morphology evolves from point strip to belt sheet aggregation distribution; The economic and property functions are concentrated in plains and mountainous areas with better economic development. The economic and property value of homesteads is relatively obvious, with a spatial distribution pattern that develops from dots to strips. The retention function is mainly concentrated in mountainous areas where the economy is relatively backward and agriculture accounts for a significant proportion of farmers’ income, with a decentralized(network)layout from point to belt(point axis)to belt to sheet.(3)Based on the perspective of farmers, village characteristics are the possible factors that affect their development, and policies, village location, economy, and terrain all reflect the opportunities for their development and evolution. The educational level and occupational characteristics of the head of household are relatively variable, which are all dynamic factors that affect the evolution of their functions. The nature of homestead has a certain limiting effect on the formation of homestead functions. The location, area, and construction time of homestead are all fundamental conditions for exerting homestead functions, and also have an impact on the process and direction of functional evolution.
