| For a long time,the economic and trade cooperation between China and Laos has developed continuously and stably.At present,it is showing a trend of accelerated development,and exchanges and cooperation are very active.In 2019,the trade volume between China and Laos reached US $3.92 billion,a year-on-year increase of12.9%.Among them,China’s export to Laos was 1.76 billion US dollars,a year-onyear increase of 21.2%;Imports from Laos amounted to US $2.16 billion,a year-onyear increase of 7.0%.China has become the main export target market of Laos’ natural resources such as mining,agriculture and forestry.This paper makes an in-depth analysis and Research on the economic and trade cooperation between China and Laos.Firstly,it analyzes the current situation of trade between China and Laos from the aspects of agriculture and mining,analyzes the industry and export of Laos,and the advantages and disadvantages of China’s investment in agriculture and mining;Secondly,the econometric regression model is used to analyze the influencing factors of bilateral trade volume,including the influencing factors of two trade indicators: the export scale of China to Laos(i.e.the import scale of Laos to China)and the import scale of China to Laos(i.e.the export scale of Laos to China);Finally,it analyzes the problems in the trade between China and Laos from three aspects: trade cooperation,investment cooperation and business environment,and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions to promote the development of trade between China and Laos.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)in terms of the influencing factors of China’s export scale to Laos,the higher the per capita GDP,population and investment scale of Laos,the more China’s export scale to Laos,which is in line with the theoretical expectation;The higher the exchange rate of RMB and the devaluation of RMB,the larger the scale of China’s exports to Laos;The higher China’s foreign direct investment,the more China’s exports to Laos.(2)In terms of the influencing factors of China’s import scale to Laos,the higher China’s per capita GDP,population and investment scale,the more China’s import scale to Laos;The higher the kip exchange rate of Laos and the devaluation of the kip,the greater the scale of China’s imports to Laos;However,there is no significant relationship between Laos’ foreign direct investment and China’s import scale to Laos.The reason may be that Laos’s foreign direct investment scale is insufficient,its attraction to international investors is low,and its products are less used for export.(3)As for the problems existing in the trade between China and Laos,in terms of trade cooperation,it is mainly reflected in the imbalance of trade structure and the cultural differences of trade commodities;In terms of investment cooperation,it is mainly reflected in the high cost of China’s investment in Laos and the unreasonable structure of China’s investment in Laos;In terms of business environment,it is reflected in the low administrative efficiency of the government and the defects of ownership system,and the serious foreign protectionism in Laos,which affects the market-oriented operation of bilateral trade.(4)The countermeasures to promote the trade development between China and Laos mainly include increasing China’s direct investment in Laos,giving full play to the complementary trade advantages of China and Laos,and optimizing the trade environment between China and Laos. |
