As a bridge of offshore financial services, the internationalization of Chinese banks is closely related to the efficiency and scale of Chinese OFDI.Most countries along the Belt and Road have weak economic bases and low financial development levels, and their domestic financial resources are difficult to meet the needs of nonfinancial Chinese enterprises for international distribution of capital and financial services,so the entry of Chinese banks is particularly important. From the existing sources of Belt and Road project financial support, the five major Chinese commercial banks are important forces in providing financing support and financial services for project construction along the Belt and Road.It is an important research proposition for Chinese banks to play a capillary role in Belt and Road project funds and improve their financial services capability.Based on this, this paper explores the current situation and problems of Chinese banks in the countries along the belt and road, the effect of the internationalization of Chinese banks on the investment of non-financial Chinese enterprises in the countries along the belt and road, and the development level of Chinese banks compared with global banks. The main research work of this thesis can be described as follows:Based on the above analysis, this paper takes the data of 36 Belt and Road countries with Chinese bank branches as a sample for empirical analysis.Since the data of the last two years is not comprehensive, this paper analyzes the impact of Chinese bank internationalization on the size and efficiency of Chinese direct investment in countries along the route from 2011 to 2020,with the non-bank enterprise’s direct investment stock as the core explanatory variable. It is found that the process of internationalization of Chinese banks as a whole is slow, and the internationalization development is mainly in the five state-owned commercial banks, while the internationalization of other commercial banks is low. There is still a big gap between the internationalization level of Chinese banks and important foreign banks. From the current situation of "going out" of Chinese enterprises,China’s direct investment in countries along the "Belt and Road" enterprises has an unbalanced distribution, mainly concentrated in Southeast Asia. From the empirical results, the internationalization of Chinese banks and the degree of internationalization of China’s direct investment in the countries along the route has a significant contribution to China’s direct investment, and China’s contribution to low-and middle-income countries along the route is even more significant.Based on the content of the study, the paper proposes policy recommendations to promote China’s OFDI,such as the state should increase the publicity of "going out",enterprises should make full use of overseas resources of Chinese banks, and banks should improve their international layout.
