| With the changes of the times, many Chinese enterprises have realized that for China,R&D internationalization is an important strategy to promote innovation and gain competitive advantages in the international market. Therefore, they have begun to carry out R&D internationalization business. However, the changes in innovation performance brought about by R&D internationalization activities by the same enterprise in different years and different enterprises in the same year may vary. Can R&D internationalization promote enterprises to improve innovation performance? Whether the absorptive capacity of enterprises can play a role in the relationship between R&D internationalization and innovation performance has become a question that many Chinese enterprises are pondering. In addition,in order to adapt to the new development pattern proposed by China, enterprises will also consider whether conducting R&D internationalization activities is in line with policy guidance.Based on this, this article takes the LLL model as the main theoretical framework, supplemented by the high-level echelon theory and absorptive capacity theory,to explore the relationship between R&D internationalization, absorptive capacity, and innovation performance. This article mainly adopts literature research and empirical analysis methods for research, selecting data from 475 A-share listed manufacturing companies from2010 to 2019,and excluding financial industry,ST and ST * enterprises,as well as enterprises without R&D internationalization business in the past 10 years. After data analysis with Stata 16.0 software, the negative binomial regression fixed effect model and stepwise regression test were used to test the Main effect model and the mesomeric effect model.Secondly, whether a company can successfully and effectively transform external technology and experience into its own capabilities to achieve true technological progress in the process of carrying out R&D internationalization activities is related to whether executives can make correct business and innovation decisions. Therefore, this study aims to explore the role of overseas executives from Chinese listed manufacturing companies in their R&D internationalization business from both theoretical and empirical perspectives, and propose the hypothesis that "overseas background of executives plays a positive moderating role in the relationship between absorptive capacity and corporate innovation performance".After analyzing and discussing the research results, this article proposes the following inspirations and opinions: enterprises should correctly view the new development pattern of "dual circulation",and actively explore the international market to absorb heterogeneous external resources to promote breakthrough progress in technology for Chinese enterprises, while fully tapping and utilizing internal resources;Secondly, enterprises should avoid blindly following the trend, choose reasonable internationalization strategies based on their own reality, effectively improve their absorption capacity, cross the initial stage of R&D internationalization, and effectively enhance the global division of labor position of Chinese enterprises; Finally, the state and enterprises should treat executives with overseas backgrounds rationally, and allocate talents reasonably based on the needs of various industries, the absorption capacity of enterprises themselves, and the ability of local executives. On the one hand, the innovation of this paper lies in the combination of high-level echelon theory and absorptive capacity theory, taking static resources and dynamic resources into consideration in the same model, studying the impact of executives’ overseas background on the relationship between absorptive capacity and innovation performance, which conforms to the future development trend and enriches the research on high-level echelon theory and R&D internationalization and enterprise innovation performance in the oriental context; On the other hand, this article studies the impact of overseas backgrounds of executives from enterprises in different regions,as well as those with different cultural distances from the host country,on the absorption capacity and innovation performance of enterprises from both domestic and international perspectives. This provides guidance for the coordinated development of China’s eastern and western economies, the rational allocation of returnees, and the integration of diverse cultures and seeking common ground while reserving differences. However, there are still some shortcomings in this study, and further improvements can be made on this basis in the future. |
