The Industrial Symbiosis Level Between China And The Belt And Road Countries And Its Impact On Trade Potential

The Belt and Road plays the significant role on promoting international economic cooperation as a platform.Since it was put forward in 2013,the economic cooperation between China and the Belt and Road countries has become increasingly close with fruitful results of mutual benefit and symbiosis.Scientific evaluating the level of industrial symbiosis between China and Belt and Road countries and studying the impact of industrial symbiosis on trade potential in depth are of great practical significance for deepening the unimpeded trade cooperation and promoting the high-quality development of the Belt and Road.Firstly,an analysis on the status of industrial symbiosis cooperation between China and the Belt and Road countries is made through comparing and summarizing the characteristics of the scale and regional distribution of bilateral trade,industrial transfers,and industrial cooperation.Then,based on the relevant data on economic and trade cooperation between China and Belt and Road countries from 2011 to 2019,this paper constructs an evaluation indicators system of industrial symbiosis through selecting 17 indicators from three dimensions of symbiotic behavior,symbiotic environment,and symbiotic benefits to measure the level of industrial symbiosis between China and Belt and Road countries through global principal component analysis and entropy weight method.Finally,the stochastic frontier gravity model and trade inefficiency model are constructed to examine the influence of industrial symbiosis on trade potential between China and Belt and Road countries,and further estimate the trade efficiency and trade potential.The results indicate that:(1)the level of industrial symbiosis between China and most Belt and Road countries are at a relatively low or low level,among which some countries are showing an upward trend,and the industrial symbiosis level presents obvious regional unbalanced distribution,presenting that countries with medium and high industrial symbiosis are concentrated in Asia,while European and African countries are in low or low level industrial symbiosis with China;(2)the improvement of industrial symbiosis between China and Belt and Road countries is conducive to the realization of bilateral trade potential,and the trade efficiency of China and most sample countries increases year by year and also shows obvious geographical distribution characteristics,presenting that the sample countries with high trade efficiency are obviously concentrated in Southeast Asia,while the sample countries with low bilateral trade efficiency are widely distributed,including Africa,Europe,Central Asia and South Asia.Based on the above research,this paper puts forward corresponding policy suggestions from three aspects of promoting symbiotic cooperation,optimizing symbiotic environment and expanding symbiotic benefits,so as to effectively promote regional cooperation and high-quality development of the Belt and Road.
