The current world economy is in a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, and the service-oriented manufacturing industry is a typical feature of this period. The accelerating process of service-oriented investment in the manufacturing industry means that the proportion of service investment in the manufacturing industry is constantly increasing. At the same time, with the continuous development of new international division of labor models, various economies around the world are continuously strengthening exchanges and cooperation in the field of trade and signing various trade agreements to enhance their international competitiveness and position in the global value chain. As an artificial institutional arrangement, trade agreements can maximize the promotion of deep-seated international trade cooperation, and the signing of service trade clauses will effectively promote the liberalization of service trade.Under the trend of service-oriented manufacturing,it will inevitably affect the development of the manufacturing industry and promote China’s manufacturing exports. Therefore, this article starts from the perspective of added value and uses DESTA and GVC databases to empirically test the impact of the depth of service terms in free trade agreements on China’s manufacturing exports. The research results show that:(1)The current free trade agreements signed by China cover both goods and services trade, with the core depth of service clauses generally higher, and most of them are higher than the depth of service clauses signed between trading partner countries and other countries.(2)The depth of FTA service terms can effectively enhance the total export volume of China’s manufacturing industry, the added value of exports abroad, and the added value of exports domestically. After subdividing specific clauses,it is found that the deepening of the depth of the other subdividing clauses, except for the most favored nation treatment clauses, has a certain promoting effect on China’s manufacturing exports. Moreover, manufacturing industries with high service utilization rates are more sensitive to the depth of FTA service terms.(3)The deepening of FTA service terms can promote China’s manufacturing exports by reducing trade costs, improving production technology, and optimizing resource allocation, thereby providing added value for China’s manufacturing exports at home and abroad. Therefore,China needs to attach great importance to the signing of service clauses in various trade agreements, accelerate the pace of negotiations on free trade agreements, actively participate in and promote the strategy of free trade zones, and pay attention to participating in the formulation of trade rules while conducting trade negotiations,so as to determine the appropriate depth of trade clauses.
