With the vigorous development and wide application of digital technology in the world,digital economy has become the main driving force of economic growth in various countries.The deepening of international division and the increasingly fierce global competitive environment make the manufacturing industries of various countries face new opportunities and challenges.Countries follow the trend of the times and actively introduce new industrial policies to promote the transformation of manufacturing industries and to improve international competitiveness.At the same time,problems such as “manufacturing outflow” in developed countries and “low-end locking” in the value chain of developing countries have become increasingly prominent.At this time,in order to realize the “re-industrialization” of developed countries and the transformation of manufacturing industries in developing countries,efficient technological innovation is the key way out for the development of manufacturing industries in various countries.The application of new generation digital technology to all aspects of the manufacturing industries will stimulate innovation of manufacturing enterprises and improve the efficiency of technological innovation,which is conducive to the transformation of the traditional manufacturing mode to the direction of intelligence and has a profound impact on promoting the transformation of the manufacturing industries and building new advantages in international competition.In view of this,this paper selects the data of 38 major economies and 18 manufacturing industries from 2000 to 2014.On the basis of systematically sorting out the correlation between digital input,the efficiency of technological innovation and international competitiveness of manufacturing industries,it builds a log-log econometric model and empirically explores the influence of digital input on the international competitiveness of manufacturing industries.It considers industrial differences and conducts heterogeneity analysis according to factor intensity and technology level respectively.From the perspective of the efficiency of technological innovation,it finally uses a mediating effect model and explores the impact path of digital input on international competitiveness of manufacturing industries.The empirical conclusions are as follows.(1)From the overall perspective,digital input has a positive impact on the international competitiveness of manufacturing industries.(2)From the perspective of the differences in factor intensity,digital input does not have a significant effect on the improvement of international competitiveness of labor-intensive and capital-intensive manufacturing industries,but it has a stronger and more significant role in promoting the international competitiveness of technology-intensive manufacturing industries.From the perspective of differences in industrial technology level,digital input will lead to the reduction of international competitiveness to a certain extent for low-tech manufacturing industries.For medium-tech and high-tech manufacturing industries,digital input will enhance the international competitiveness of manufacturing industries and has a stronger effect on high-tech manufacturing industries.(3)From the viewpoint of the influence path,the efficiency of technological innovation plays an obvious mediating role in the process of digital input affecting the international competitiveness of manufacturing industries.In other words,digital input affects the international competitiveness of manufacturing industries by improving the efficiency of technological innovation.On the basis of the above conclusions,the following policy suggestions are put forward.(1)Increase digital input in an all-round way to promote the deep integration of digital technology and manufacturing industries.(2)Fully stimulate the innovation vitality of manufacturing industries and improve the efficiency of technological innovation.(3)Different industries should implement differentiated digital input according to their own conditions.
