In recent years,the maturity and popularity of IT technology has driven the development of Internet finance,coupled with the outbreak of the New Crown epidemic,which has further enhanced the status of Internet financial services by limiting traditional interactions and marketing methods.A number of changes have weakened the role of traditional financial intermediaries,represented by commercial banks,and posed significant challenges to banks’ retail operations.Therefore,it is particularly important to examine the transformation and development of commercial banks’ retail business.Taking Bank J as an example,this study focuses on the current situation of the development of its retail business and the problems that exist in the process of its transformation and development,and proposes a series of supporting measures to complement and improve the relevant theories and further provide practical guidance significance for the sustainable development of this area.This study first compares the views of domestic and foreign scholars on the development and transformation of commercial banks’ retail business,introduces the basic situation of banks’ retail business and the relevant contents of transformation,and explains the supporting roles of financial innovation theory,risk management theory,customer relationship management theory and long-tail theory on the development of banks’ retail business.It then uses qualitative analysis,case study analysis and comparative analysis to analyse the current situation of Bank J’s retail business development in terms of business scale,products,customer system and management system,etc.By comparing with the development of other banks,it elaborates on the problems existing in Bank J’s retail business.This paper analyses in detail the motives of J Bank’s retail business transformation,analyses the internal and external environment of J Bank’s retail business,and summarises its successful experiences and methods in the light of specific successful cases of retail business transformation of domestic commercial banks.In response to the problems and obstacles encountered in J Bank’s transformation,targeted adjustments are made along the transformation path.By increasing the variety of retail products,improving the relationship with retail customers,strengthening the construction of a talent team,building a more scientific and effective risk control system,constructing a more complete wealth management system,building intelligent branches,and constructing an information management chain with the concept of big data,J Bank is supported in its transformation and development.
