| Innovation occupies an important position in our country and it plays an important role in enhancing our long-term development momentum and gaining an international competitive advantage.In the highly competitive and rapidly changing market environment,companies must carry out exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation at the same time,that is,carry out ambidextrous innovation to maintain long-term growth trends and competitive advantage.More and more companies regard teams as the main unit of ambidextrous innovation because they have the integration ability that individuals cannot achieve and the flexibility that companies do not have.At present,research on the antecedents of team ambidextrous innovation has made some progress.However,research on how team leaders affect team ambidextrous innovation only discusses leaders’ behavior,ignoring the impact of leaders’ cognitive characteristics.The characteristics closely related to leaders’ cognition may deepen our understanding of how leaders affect team ambidextrous innovation.According to the staged team process theory,team input influences team output through the team process.This study focuses on the cognitive feature of team leaders’ promotion focus,analyzes its impact on team ambidextrous innovation and its mechanism,and constructs a moderated mediation model of team leaders’promotion focus on team ambidextrous innovation,with competition-oriented culture as the intermediary variable and team efficacy as the moderator variable.This study takes teams of a provincial telecom operation company and its branch company in eastern China as the research object,conducts a questionnaire survey on 220 team leaders,and uses the hierarchical regression analysis method to test the conceptual model.Results reveal that:(1)Team leaders’ promotion focus has a significant positive influence on exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation.(2)Competition-oriented culture mediates the relationship between team leaders’promotion focus and exploratory innovation,exploitative innovation.(3)Team efficacy not only positively moderates the influence of competition-oriented culture on exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation,but also strengthens the mediating effect of competition-oriented culture.This study enriches the research on the antecedents of team ambidextrous innovation,reveals the internal mechanism of team leader’s promotion focus influencing team ambidextrous innovation,and advances the research on the boundary conditions of team leaders’ promotion focus influencing team ambidextrous innovation.The conclusions of this study provide theoretical guidance for organizations to improve the level of team ambidextrous innovation.Organizations and team leaders can promote team ambidextrous innovation by selecting and training appropriate team leaders according to promotion focus,enhancing team competition-oriented culture,and cultivating team efficacy. |
