Abstract/Summary:
China has won a comprehensive victory in the battle against poverty and completely got rid of absolute poverty. It is urgent to consolidate the achievements of poverty alleviation and establish a long-term mechanism for poverty alleviation. With the rapid development of Internet technology, financial poverty alleviation gradually draws attention. With the application of digital technologies such as big data,Internet and cloud computing, digital inclusive finance can break the restrictions on the development of traditional inclusive finance, and has advantages such as large coverage, low cost, high efficiency and easier risk control, bringing a new way and idea to financial poverty alleviation. The research on the poverty reduction effect of digital financial inclusion in this thesis is divided into two stages. In the first stage, the multidimensional relative poverty situation is measured and analyzed: the multidimensional relative poverty index system is constructed by using the data of Chinese household tracking survey(CFPS2014,CFPS2016,CFPS2018),and the multidimensional relative poverty index is measured by the improved AF double-boundary method. At first, the poverty incidence of single index is calculated and analyzed.Secondly, using different thresholds of average household income(40%,50%,60%),the multidimensional relative poverty status and changes in the overall and urban and rural areas over the years were calculated. Finally, the multidimensional relative poverty index is decomposed in terms of regions and indicators, and the multidimensional relative poverty of different indicators and different regions and their contribution to the overall poverty level are discussed. The second stage is empirical analysis: on the basis of sorting out the relevant theoretical support basis and intermediary mechanism of multi-dimensional poverty reduction in digital financial inclusion, this thesis demonstrates the multi-dimensional relative poverty of households and the development index of digital financial inclusion.First, the baseline regression of the panel probit model showed that digital financial inclusion as a whole contributed to the reduction of multidimensional poverty, and this conclusion remained valid after the endogeneity treatment and a series of robustness tests.Secondly,on the basis of baseline regression, the thesis analyzes the regional, age and urban/rural heterogeneity of the poverty reduction effect of digital financial inclusion, and explains the possible reasons for the differences. Finally, the step-up regression method and the introduction of intermediate variables are used to empirically test the economic growth effect and income distribution effect of digital financial inclusion in poverty reduction. After analysis and demonstration, the following conclusions are obtained:(1)It is found that China’s relative poverty is not only reflected in income, but also reflected in education, medical care, housing and other aspects.(2)Overall,the multidimensional relative poverty of residents is decreasing continuously, but there is regional and urban-rural heterogeneity, and the gap between rural areas is larger.(3)The development of digital inclusive finance alleviates multidimensional relative poverty due to regional, age and urban-rural heterogeneity.(4)The mediating effect of the results of various intermediary channels is valid, indicating that digital inclusive finance can alleviate multidimensional relative poverty by promoting local economic growth and narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas.
