| Lao PDR is a country that is expanding rapidly in practically every area.As a result,housing and other utilities are in great demand.Therefore,in addition to the rise in the number of foreign employees in the Vientiane capital,it is not surprising to find construction expansion going on everywhere in urban areas.So,contractor selection is also a crucial factor in the construction business,especially for clients or parties involved that need to manage and finish their project in a reasonable amount of time and at a reasonable cost without compromising quality.The purpose of this research was to study the factors affecting contractor selection for house construction projects in the Vientiane Capital,Laos.The sample used in this research is 120 people who have used the service and are interested in using the services for house construction projects in Vientiane capital,Laos and used the questionnaire as an instrument to collect data,using various statistics to analyze were percentage,frequency,mean,standard deviation,independent sample T-test,and F-test and Pearson correlation.The results of the research can be summarized as follows:The majority of the respondents were 62 females,representing 52%,aged between 36 years to 50 years old,62 people,representing 52%.Having an education level of bachelor’s degree,76 people,representing 64%,having an occupation of government official,41 people,representing 34%;and for an income per month between 1.000.001-5.000.000 Kip(about 65.6-328 USD),65 people,representing 54%.(As of August 15,2022,the exchange rate was 15.237 kip/1 USD.)The factors affecting contractor selection for house construction projects were important.When considering each factor,it was found that construction and project management are of the highest importance first with(mean=3.58),followed by the contractor’s credibility;safety,and the environment.They are of importance(mean=3.56 and 3.55);financial ability;personnel,labor,and machinery;and relationships between the contractor and other people are important at the same value(mean=3.54);and construction price and past and present performance are of importance(mean=3.53 and 3.50),respectively.When considering the decision-making process,which can be divided into "Before service","During service",and "After service" of the project,it was found that "Before service" was the highest importance first with(mean=3.55),followed by "During service" and"After service".They are of importance with(mean=3.51 and 3.50),respectively.The result of the hypothesis:It was found that the overall sample had different the characteristics(genders,age,education level,occupation and incomes)but are not different factors affecting contractor selection for house construction projects in Vientiane capital,Laos.However,all factors(Past and Present Performance;Construction and project management;Financial ability;Safety and the environment;Construction price;Relationships between the contractor and other people;Personnel,labor,and machinery;and The contractor’s credibility)have a very strong positive correlation with the decision-making process("Before Service","During service" and After service")for contractor selection of house construction projects in Vientiane capital,Laos,with a statistically significant level of 0.05. |
