The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region is one of the economic growth poles with advantages and potential in the northern coast of China,and is also a model area leading China’s regional synergy and high-quality development.The construction industry is a basic industry for national economic development,and the level of its development also affects the economic development of the region to a certain extent.As a resource and labor-intensive industry,the construction industry consumes a large amount of labor,materials and mechanical equipment in the development process,and the utilization efficiency of these resources will affect the high-quality and sustainable development of the regional construction industry.This paper analyzes the changes and spatial distribution characteristics of the construction industry efficiency in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region from both spatial and temporal dimensions to explore the space for regional construction industry efficiency improvement and provide ideas for realizing the high-quality development of the construction industry in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.In order to study the spatial and temporal differences of construction industry efficiency in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region from 2009 to 2019,the input-output indicators of this paper were determined by analyzing the existing literature and combining the research on the evaluation index system by related scholars.The SBM model is combined with Malmquist index to measure the construction industry efficiency of 13 prefecture-level cities in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and to divide the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region into four functional areas according to the Outline of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Cooperative Development Plan to assess the differences in construction industry efficiency of each functional area;exploratory spatial data analysis is used to explore the spatial distribution characteristics of the efficiency of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei as a whole and each city from a dynamic perspective and the main reasons that hinder the development of the regional Based on the efficiency values obtained,the STIRPAT model was extended to analyze the factors affecting the efficiency of the construction industry and to propose suggestions for efficiency improvement.The analysis leads to the following conclusions:(1)From the characteristics of time-series changes,the overall construction industry efficiency values in Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei region show fluctuating changes during the study period,and the overall efficiency values are not high.Beijing,Tianjin,Shijiazhuang,Zhangjiakou,Baoding five cities construction industry efficiency in the frontier surface,Xingtai City construction industry efficiency is the lowest,construction industry efficiency differences.(2)From the four regions divided,except for the northwestern ecological cultured area which is on the optimal frontier surface,the other three regions have not reached the optimal efficiency level.The efficiency level of the central core functional area is higher,but it has not reached the optimal level.The technical efficiency index,pure technical efficiency index and scale efficiency index of the four functional areas,except for the southern functional expansion area,all show a decreasing trend,among which the decrease in pure technical efficiency is the main reason for the decrease in overall efficiency.The technical efficiency index of the eastern coastal development area decreases the most,and the northwestern ecological cultured area is the second.(3)From the perspective of spatial change characteristics,the construction industry efficiency in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region is distributed as "high in the middle and low in the north and south",there is positive spatial correlation among cities in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei,and the phenomenon of "Matthew effect" of regional construction industry efficiency is significant,and the cities with high concentration of construction industry efficiency are The most cities in the high concentration area of the construction industry.(4)The extended STIRPAT influence factor analysis model shows that there is a positive correlation between the efficiency of construction industry in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the scale of enterprise personnel,technology level,market demand and industrial development;the per capita capital has a negative impact on the efficiency of construction industry in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.Market demand is the main factor driving the efficiency of the construction industry in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
