Finance is the core of modern economy,and bank is the main body of financial industry development.The sustainable development of commercial banks plays an important role in the healthy development of China’s financial industry and the sustainable development of the whole national economy.Socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era,and China’s economy has shifted from high-speed development to high-quality development.Deepening supply-side structural reform comprehensively requires more support from commercial banks.In the new stage of development,the economic downward pressure is increasing,the rapid development of capital market and the trend of financial disintermediation is intensifying,the reform of interest rate liberalization is basically completed,the rapid development of fintech and the spread of COVID-19 are all forcing the reform and transformation of commercial banks.Keep up with the trend of The Times development,China’s banking industry has made some positive trying: On the commercial bank system,perfecting the diversified and multi-level development system,which formed a large state-owned commercial banks as the core,including joint-stock commercial banks,city commercial banks,rural commercial banks and private banks,such as multi-level banking system;In terms of business operation,it has changed the traditional asset-heavy business model and actively developed retail business,intermediate business and other asset-light businesses to achieve lightweight upgrading.In terms of operation and management,it has gradually shifted from extensive management to fine management,and constantly explored and improved the construction of corporate governance mechanism of commercial banks.However,due to the low resource allocation efficiency of China’s financial market,lagging financial supervision,insufficient financial innovation,the limitations of commercial banks’ own management level and development strategy,commercial banks still have some problems,such as unclear development strategy,strong business homogeneity,corporate governance“likeness” but “god is not similar” and so on.This paper uses the three-stage DEA model to empirically analyze the internal performance of commercial banks,that is,by measuring the technical efficiency,pure technical efficiency,scale efficiency and scale efficiency of27 commercial banks from 2012 to 2020,the empirical results show that the overall reform performance of China’s commercial banks shows an improvement trend;Stata software is used to empirically analyze the external performance of commercial banks,that is,commercial banks play a significant role in economic growth.Facing new situations and challenges at home and abroad,commercial banks should accurately grasp the meaning of the new stage of development,thoroughly implement the new development concept,actively adapt to the strategic requirements of the new development pattern,firmly grasp the main line of supply-side structural reform,speed up transformation and development,and improve the quality and efficiency of serving the real economy.In the development strategy,scientific positioning,to achieve differentiated management;In business expansion,promote business transformation and upgrading,strengthen the application of financial technology innovation;In terms of operation and management,we should improve the corporate governance framework,explore a corporate governance system with Chinese characteristics,actively provide efficient financial support for the development of the real economy and industrial transformation,and improve our ability to prevent and defuse financial risks,so as to promote the steady and long-term development of the banking industry and achieve high-quality economic and social development.
