Intermediate Goods Import,technological Innovation And Technological Complexity Of Manufacturing Export

The position of intermediate goods in the global value chain and production network will have an important impact on a country’s economic growth.Moreover,the technical complexity of products is now a powerful weapon for a country to participate in international competition and division of labor.After the foreign intermediate products are imported by our country,we will use the domestic comparative advantage of these intermediate products for processing,and then export to all parts of the world.And the technical content and quality of the final product will also be improved by the import of intermediate products.It can also improve the export technology complexity of China’s manufacturing enterprises.In the part of theory and current situation analysis,this paper reviews relevant literature on intermediate goods import,technological innovation and export technology complexity,and expounds three paths of intermediate goods import affecting export technology complexity:technology spillover effect,learning effect and competition effect.On this basis,it analyzes the different impact of technological innovation on each path.It also introduces the current situation of technological complexity of import and export of intermediate products in China.The empirical analysis of this paper adopts the enterprise data of Chinese industrial enterprises and customs database from 2000 to 2013 at the micro level.In this paper,the panel fixed effect model is used to test the overall impact of intermediate imports on export technology complexity,and on this basis,the moderating effect of technological innovation is also tested and analyzed.The robustness test was carried out by using alternative core variables and systematic GMM method.Finally,the sample regression analysis was carried out for the differences of enterprise ownership and intermediate goods import origin countries.Through theoretical and empirical analysis,the empirical results are as follows:(1)on the whole,intermediate imports can promote the technological complexity of enterprises’ export.(2)The technological innovation level of enterprises has a positive moderating effect on the export technological complexity of intermediate goods imports.The higher the technological innovation level of enterprises,the more significant the promotion effect of intermediate imports on the technological complexity of enterprises’ export.(3)Intermediate goods from OECD countries have a better promotion effect on the technological complexity of enterprises’ export than those from non-OECD countries.(4)Based on the different ownership of enterprises,the effect of intermediate imports on the technological complexity of state-owned enterprises is stronger than that of non-state-owned enterprises.Finally,according to the research conclusions,this paper puts forward relevant policies:appropriately expand the import scale of intermediate goods,optimize the import structure of intermediate goods;The government should encourage enterprises to import intermediate products and develop the source countries of intermediate products.To implement the strategy of opening to the outside world,the government should import different intermediate goods due to the different ownership of enterprises.
