With the ongoing improvement and development of the Information and Communication Technology infrastructure construction, the interaction of cities is becoming closer and closer. The economic relationship among cities break through the constraints of geographic distance and becoming the space of politic, economic and culture, and gradually forms the network of Urban. In the urban network, node cities attached by the competitions and cooperation of two cities. This connection is manifested in two aspects: one is the competitive network externalities of similar industries between node cities due to competition.Complementary relationship results in complementary externalities. In recent years,my country has made great efforts to promote the urban agglomeration strategy of coordinated development of large, medium and small cities, and the urban network in the urban system is gradually being formed.Under this background, the horizontal connection between cities has become an important factor affecting urban economic development. Therefore,it is necessary to study the externalities of the urban network reflecting the horizontal connections between cities, and to explore the new foundation and new kinetic energy that affect the urban economic growth. This thesis analyzes the internal mechanism of urban network externalities from the perspective of inter-city synergy and scale borrowing. The relative location and the number of Internet users per 10,000 people, which reflect the convenience of node-city connection in the urban network, are specific indicators to measure the urban network externalities of all prefecture-level cities in my country’s five major urban agglomerations.Based on the measurement indicators,we further take the five major urban agglomerations in my country as the research objects, construct a production function, and introduce the measured competitive network externalities and complementary network externalities into them. The empirical results show that the competitive network externalities obtained by the five major urban agglomerations at this stage have positive and negative externalities. The externality shows that the competitive relationship between cities in the same industry has an inhibitory effect on urban economic growth;the complementary network externalities generated by the interaction of different industries between cities are positive externalities, which are beneficial to urban economic growth. |
