Study Of CPC Newspaper Propaganda In Shanghai Suburban Land Reform

Shortly after the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the land reform in the suburbs of Shanghai City faced many difficulties such as complicated land relations and class relations,numerous concerns of the masses,weak ranks of personnel and so on.In order to further guide the rural work and promote the land reform work,the Communist Party of China(CPC)Shanghai Suburban Working Committee concentrated on founding the Shanghai Suburban Peasants’ Newspaper and made it a guiding position to publicize the land reform policy,guide agricultural production,reform peasants’ mind and rebuild the rural social order.Based on the propaganda environment at that time,Shanghai Suburban Peasants’ Newspaper actively drew closer to the masses since its inception,and effectively aroused the class consciousness of the peasants by interpreting and arguing the necessity and policy content of the land reform.Shanghai Suburban Peasants’ Newspaper also made timely use of the class contradictions to combine land reform with the feelings of family and country under the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea,and promptly turned the patriotic feelings of the masses into practical actions,thus giving lasting impetus to the promotion of land reform.The propaganda effect of party newspapers is the result of the interaction between propaganda discourse and propaganda methods.Shanghai Suburban Peasants’ Newspaper constructed a new discourse logic with a revolutionary discourse of courageous struggle,a class discourse with a clear stance,and a popular discourse that is easy to understand,retaining the mainstream style of "stressing politics" in its language and adopting a propaganda strategy of "approachability".It had completed the transplantation of the Central Committee’s discourse,the conversion of the Central Committee’s discourse to the local discourse,and the reconstruction of the local discourse to the grassroots discourse.At the same time,the effectiveness of the newspaper’s propaganda on land reform was strengthened through the use of a team of correspondents,newspaper reading groups,and"blackboards on the newspaper".The newspaper’s training of the propaganda team,the selection of peasant opinion leaders,and even the guidance of the general public’s expression of opinions in rural areas all strengthened the propaganda effect of Shanghai Suburban Peasants’Newspaper.Shanghai Suburban Peasants’Newspaper broke the one-way propaganda dilemma from the Central Committee to the grassroots and made information interaction between multiple levels and groups into reality.Taking Shanghai Suburban Peasants’ Newspaper,the Organ newspaper of CPC Shanghai Suburban Working Committee at the early stage of the founding of New China,this paper attempts to restore the origins,propaganda content,propaganda methods and land reform discourse of the rural Party newspaper in suburbs of Shanghai City in the context of land reform,so as to examine and perspective the internal logic of the propaganda of the CPC Organ newspaper.
