Closed innovation is limited to enterprise’s internal knowledge base,which cannot help enterprise quickly identify opportunities and acquire advanced external knowledge in the competitive and ever-changing market.With the development of economic globalization and the popularity of web 2.0,this old innovation mindset is no longer applicable.Enterprises need to actively explore and utilize external resources,draw external knowledge and integrate it into their own knowledge base,so as to realize the complementation,sharing and value-added of internal and external resources.Thus,open innovation platforms are born.The purpose of establishing an open innovation platform is to collect external ideas and carry out open innovation,so as to improve their own innovation ability and achieve innovation effectiveness,and thus further improve their competitiveness in the market.For the open innovation platform built around multi-functional products,users will publish ideas in the platform according to their own experience and knowledge for specific product themes.Employees will read the ideas and learn from them to integrate them into the corporate knowledge base and apply them to the innovation and optimization of products,so as to achieve innovation effectiveness and improve corporate performance.However,the popularity of the Internet has given rise to a large amount of user-generated content.So open innovation platforms are prone to information overload.Idea screening is a complex decision-making problem and a pressing issue for enterprises in the process of open innovation using open innovation platforms.Due to the lack of attention of some enterprises and the lack of experience in the operation and management of open innovation platforms,it is difficult for them to identify high-quality ideas from the platform.So they cannot efficiently obtain valuable knowledge from the open innovation platform,and they cannot make valuable innovation optimization for each product function.In addition,the operation of the open innovation platform itself requires costs.Therefore,these enterprises cannot benefit from it and the platform is finally closed.Innovation effectiveness is the effect that innovation activities bring to the enterprises,such as the improvement of product quality,the increase of sales,and the improvement of user reputation.This study takes Xiaomi’s open innovation platform as the research object.Under the background of Open Innovation Theory and with the Innovation Value Chain Theory as the framework,this thesis divides innovation activities into stages.Based on the global perspective it provides,this thesis studies open innovation platforms.Using modular thinking from the product topic perspective,this thesis explores the impact of ideas’characteristics on innovation effectiveness in open innovation platforms.(1)Write a Python crawler program to obtain the ideas data in the open innovation platform and the user reviews data in the online word-of-mouth community.Firstly,through LDA topic model and manual coding of the idea text data,summarize the product topic-keyword matrix.And then induct the idea distribution of different product topics,and extract idea feature information.Secondly,perform sentiment analysis on the reviews text data,and induct the review distribution of different product topics according to the product topic-keyword matrix.And summarize the word-of-mouth information of the product topics,so as to measure the innovation effectiveness of the open innovation platform.(2)Propose hypotheses and construct the empirical conceptual model of this thesis to explore the impact of product topics frequency on innovation effectiveness in open innovation platforms.The mediating and moderating variables are also introduced to explore the specific paths through which product theme frequency affects innovation effectiveness.(3)The main,mediating and moderating effects were examined,and it was found that the frequency of the product topics positively influenced the innovation effectiveness.In addition,the knowledge output within the open innovation platform at the idea transformation stage partially mediated the above relationship.And the idea profession and idea support of the product topics positively moderated the influence of the frequency on the knowledge output within the open innovation platform at the idea transformation stage.(4)Summarize the findings of the study,as well as summarize the limitations of this thesis and provides outlooks for future research.The innovation of this thesis is mainly reflected in the following aspects.(1)Research from the perspective of product topics rather than individual ideas.Instead of limiting to individual ideas,this thesis integrate and categorize ideas through topic model and manual coding.Under the guidance of Knowledge Value Chain Theory,study the relationship between idea characteristics and innovation effectiveness of open innovation platforms from the perspective of product topics,which is more in line with the modular design thinking of products in actual development.(2)Focus on the whole process of innovation activities of open innovation platform based on value path.Based on the Innovation Value Chain Theory,the innnovation process is divided into stages,and the innovation activities based on the open innovation platform are studied with a global perspective.This thesis pay attention to the complete chain of innovation activities,especially the subsequent transformation stage of ideas,and explore the influence paths between each link.This thesis also focuses on the perspectives of product end-users.Measure the effectiveness of innovation by tapping the word-of-mouth of users in online word-of-mouth communities,and break the barrier between open innovation platforms and online word-of-mouth communities.So that the measurement criteria are no longer limited to the platform and the enterprise.This study demonstrates the role of open innovation platforms in the innovation activities carried out by enterprise.At the same time,it provides new insights for enterprise to manage open innovation platforms.It is beneficial for enterprise to quickly locate high-value product topics in open innovation platforms and learn from them to develop rational development plans.Thus,it can help enterprise optimize products and services and improve the innovation effectiveness. |
