Entering the Web2.0 era, social networks focusing on user generated content have developed swiftly and also become vital tools for information exchange, such as QQ and WeChat, which are gradually applied in organizational situations to promote teamwork and communication, and then developed enterprise social media platform as professional enterprise-level application. With 5G,big data, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and other technologies developing rapidly, the global digitalization trend has made digital transformation of enterprises a necessary option. The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 has further accelerated the digitalization process, vigorously promoted remote office. As an indispensable communication tool, the enterprise social media platform attracts attention. As the growing importance of the platform,we need to focus on its impact on knowledge sharing, and clarify its actual effect as new knowledge sharing method which is beneficial for organizations to use the platform according to their conditions.Although scholars’ exploration of knowledge sharing has never ceased, research focusing on the impact of the platform on knowledge sharing is relatively scarce, and existing research does not match the actual application scenarios. Therefore, this study hopes to explore the impact of enterprise social media platforms on knowledge sharing and the key affordances of the platform. This research starts from self-presentation theory, regulatory focus theory and affordance theory, and obtains first-hand data through semi-structured interview and questionnaire, and uses fsQCA analysis to conclude:firstly, the introduction of enterprise social media platform does not necessarily lead to high knowledge sharing;secondly, the key affordances of the platform that affect knowledge sharing are association, searchability, editability and persistence;thirdly, under working contexts of different regulatory focus, high or low knowledge sharing can be triggered when corresponding combination of platform affordances matched;fourthly, high association and high searchability are necessary conditions for high knowledge sharing, and low persistence is a necessary condition for low knowledge sharing. This paper extracts the key affordances that affect knowledge sharing from the overall perspective of platform availability, explains the common impact of platform affordance combinations on knowledge sharing in different situations, and expands the application scope of self-presentation theory to the field of knowledge sharing. In practice, the conclusions of this article are conducive to the effective use of the platform by managers and avoid negative effects, and also provide useful enlightenment for the product design of platform suppliers. |
