Based on the critical standpoint of media, society and cultural fields, this thesis analyzes the stigmatization of "Yuan" by the media and the public in the new media era by using the symbolic violence theory of French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, the reason "Yuan" became a symbolic violence, and its operation mechanism of violence on women,as well as the emotional expression and digital empowerment strategies carried out by women groups on the "Yuan" symbol.Furthermore,it reveals the existence of implicit symbolic violence in the media field,as well as its implementation of gender discipline and symbolic annihilation of women. It is hoped that this thesis will be helpful to promote the establishment of an equal and just gender power structure in China in transition, and shed light on the establishment of a harmonious cyberspace. This thesis finds that in the new media era, media text symbols such as "X-yuan" with non-physical violence are becoming new forms of gender hegemony.Media symbols under gender issues belittle the image and social value of women, and "Yuan" is integrated into the formal discourse system by mainstream media, thus forming an established discourse order to cater to the male-dominated gender hegemony in traditional concepts. Moreover, symbolic violence has a reproductive effect on the gender power structure, and to some extent symbolic violence also promotes the transformation of cyberspace into a vicious field of gender antagonism.Secondly,in the online discourse practice of the "X-yuan" issue, female audiences have become sensitive to the context of symbolic violence, and through imitation, they create opposing symbolic texts to fight back.In the social transformation period of gender power transfer, social media has become an important field for both men and women to compete for the right to speak.Internet symbol conflicts essentially represent the differences between patriarchal ideology and gender equality consensus. In symbol conflict incidents, women’s emotional expressions have a communication intention of longing for dialogue and negotiation.
