| After the Qing army occupied Kunming in 1659,it began to control and manage Yunnan, but since the Qing government inherited the Ming dynasty’s system of tusi and feudal lords to guard the frontier, the Three Clans Rebellion broke out in 1673 after the Kangxi Emperor decided to remove the clans. After the rebellion was put down in 1681,Yunnan reverted to the jurisdiction of the Qing court. In the context of the policy of protecting the frontier,Yunnan-Myanmar folk trade began to flow normally, and the spread of culture and exchange resumed along with the development of trade. However, when Burma was colonized by the British in 1824,the nature of Yunnan-Myanmar trade changed,as did the medium and content of cultural transmission. For these two reasons, this study uses a holistic historical perspective, focusing on the first hundred years or so when the social patterns of both sides remained unchanged. The trade between Yunnan and Myanmar gradually flourished due to various factors such as political power and perfect transportation, which also led to a prosperous scene of cultural dissemination and exchange. This study focuses on the media through which cultural content was transmitted during the trade between Yunnan and Burma during the Qing Dynasty, and the specific characteristics of the spiritual and material cultural content transmitted through these media. This helps us to understand the mechanism of the relationship between culture and trade, and to argue that the spread of culture was not simply an exchange between progressive and backward cultures. At the same time,to a certain extent,it clarifies the mechanism of mutual influence between trade and cultural diffusion, and finds that culture has a trust-building effect on trade the mechanism of reversal of Chinese cultural differences, and these two mechanisms to a certain extent illustrate the operational relationship between trade and cultural diffusion. The analysis of the historical influence of cultural communication in Yunnan-Myanmar trade and its revelation to contemporary times can put the theoretical significance into practice, which can not only provide ideas for developing more effective cultural communication content now,but also provide ideas for modern China and Myanmar to learn from each other’s win-win cooperation in trade.Overall, this study is an attempt to summarize the relationship between trade and cultural diffusion in general by taking into account the background of the development of Qing dynasty society, and by compiling Chinese historical texts,Yunnan dialects, and relevant writings, and by combining knowledge of economic and historical disciplines to analyze in some detail the basis and medium of the occurrence of cultural diffusion in the Yunnan-Myanmar trade during this 100-year period, and then combining it with its characteristics and influences. |
