With the booming development of network technology and the popularization of mobile devices and smart terminals,various Internet applications(such as augmented/virtual reality,high-definition video)are constantly emerging.Considering that entrusting all computing tasks to remote cloud resources is difficult to meet application latency and energy consumption requirements,the concept of edge computing is proposed,that is,cloud computing resources are deployed at the network edge of user terminals to process computing tasks nearby.On the other hand,cloudnative programming and serverless architecture provide a new way of software development and operation,enabling developers to build applications and services without paying attention to the underlying servers,and have the ability to automatically expand and shrink capacity to achieve on-demand allocation of resources.Edge devices often have the problem of resource shortage.Serverless computing in the edge environment can effectively improve the utilization of resources and improve the operation and maintenance management of edge infrastructure.Therefore,the integration of edge computing and serverless computing has become an important trend in the development of the Internet and has great application prospects.Currently,serverless computing framework is mainly designed for cloud computing,while the application of serverless computing in edge computing scenarios remains to be studied.How to combine edge computing and serverless computing,design a serverless edge computing network platform architecture,and implement serverless edge computing network platform based on the architecture is the main research problem of this paper.Based on the characteristics of edge computing and serverless computing,this paper first analyses the design requirements of the platform,and then proposes a serverless edge computing network platform architecture for the design requirements.For the proposed architecture,this paper designs and implements the resource orchestration management subsystem,edge network control subsystem and serverless computing service management subsystem based on the open source framework ONOS,Knative,OpenFaaS,and expounds the functional modules and implementation details of each subsystem.Finally,the system test is carried out to verify the effectiveness of each functional module.Combined with serverless computing,software-defined network and other technologies,this paper designs a serverless edge computing network platform integrating resource arrangement,network control and elastic service,which can reduce resource consumption and simplify the development,operation and maintenance of applications.
