IP geolocation is to pinpoint the geographic location of IP hosts based on their IP addresses which are the identifications of Internet devices.IP geolocation has high potential and research value in the social network, online advertisement, network traceback and network performance improvement. It can be divided into three categories: methods based on information speculation, methods based on network measurement and methods based on database query. This thesis focuses on the latter two,the main contributions of our work can be summarized as follows:(1)A new method named Last-hop Router Based Geolocation(short for LRBG)method is proposed to achieve street-level accuracy.Firstly, the distribution of fixed Internet users within the range of a last router’s delivery is employed to infer the last router’s location. Then, the regional level topology map is analyzed based on data collected through network measurement. Finally, the target host is located according to the topological relationship between the target host and the last hop router. The evaluation results show that the method we proposed can achieve street-level geolocation.(2)The distribution characteristics, accuracy and consistency of several commonly used IP geolocation databases are statistically analyzed.Firstly, the analysis of global distribution and characteristics of the databases is conducted, and then the data consistency of three commonly used databases is compared. Finally, the accuracy of the databases is investigated.(3)A novel approach is proposed to calibrate geolocation databases.A variety of classifiers are employed and time delays are adopted as features to automatically reveal the relation between distances and time delays.Data set for training and testing are obtained by a strategy of taking advantage of current databases.
