Chinese Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Ordinary High School(2017 Edition)include mathematical modeling as one of the core literacy of six mathematics subjects in high school mathematics curriculum,and attach great importance to it.Mathematical modeling is a bridge between mathematics and the real world,and an effective carrier for comprehensively developing students’ various mathematical abilities and developing students’ core literacy.In senior high school,mathematical modeling is one of the four main content lines of mathematics courses.Special topics of mathematical modeling and mathematical inquiry activities are set up in courses and textbooks.Meanwhile,mathematical modeling content also runs through three main content lines of functions,geometry and algebra,probability and statistics.It is representative to study the mathematical modeling content of function part.The content of mathematical modeling in textbooks provides guidance for the teaching of mathematical modeling,and the international countries’ attention to mathematical modeling teaching will be reflected in their textbooks.Comparing the content of mathematical modeling in textbooks is the most intuitive and operable way to compare the characteristics and maturity of mathematical modeling teaching in different countries.The comparative analysis of the content of mathematical modeling in textbooks can provide references for the choice and organization of curriculum content of mathematical modeling and the compilation of content of mathematical modeling in textbooks of our country’s high school and provide theoretical basis for the teaching of mathematical modeling.This study uses literature research method,content analysis method,comparative research method and statistical method to compare and study the mathematical modeling content of the function part of Chinese PEP textbook,American MC textbook and Australian VCE textbook,mainly to solve the following problems:(1)What are the characteristics of the mathematical models in the function mathematical modeling content of high school mathematics textbooks in China,the United States and Australia? What are the similarities and differences between the three countries?(2)What are the characteristics of situational authenticity and situational types of the mathematical modeling content of functions in high school mathematics textbooks in China,the United States and Australia? What are the similarities and differences between the three countries?(3)How does the modeling process of functions in high school mathematics textbooks in China,the United States and Australia develop? What are the main points? What are the similarities and differences between the three countries?(4)What are the similarities and differences in the compilation of functional mathematical modeling topics in high school mathematics textbooks in China,the United States and Australia?The research conclusions are as follows:(1)Chinese,American and Australian textbooks all attach importance to logarithmic function,trigonometric function,first-order function and quadratic function model.The PEP textbook in China has prominent emphasis and appropriate details,while the VCE textbook in Australia has an unbalanced proportion of models,and the MC textbook in America is comprehensive and complex.(2)The Chinese,American and Australian textbooks all pay attention to the structured situation,and each has its own characteristics in the setting of quasi-real situation and real situation.(3)All types of situations are involved in the Chinese,American and Australian textbooks,but the proportion is slightly different.(4)The Chinese,American and Australian textbooks pay more attention to mathematical modeling,while the Chinese PEP textbooks pay more attention to mathematical modeling.(5)The topic of mathematical modeling in the Chinese and American textbooks meets the curriculum standards of their respective countries,but the process is incomplete.The process of the Chinese PEP textbook is relatively complete,and the application of information technology and the number of topics in the American MC textbook are inferior.Based on the research conclusion,the author puts forward some suggestions for textbook compilation:(1)Attach importance to the creation of reasonable mathematical modeling situation.(2)Increase the completeness of mathematical modeling content.(3)To increase the compilation of instructional content on the use of information technology in the modeling process.Teaching suggestions:(1)Use the textbook reasonably according to the intention of compiling the textbook.(2)Creative use of teaching materials.(3)Good at using information technology to complete all links of mathematical modeling.(4)Organize research activities well.
