In recent years,as the policy of training male kindergarten teachers around the world has been promoted,the number of male kindergarten teachers has increased significantly,but the retention of male kindergarten teachers is not optimistic because of the working environment,social prejudice,salary and other factors.Local education authorities have established professional communities of male kindergarten teachers,aiming to form management teams to help male kindergarten teachers quickly adapt to the kindergarten environment and find their own career paths.Studying the degree of influence of professional communities on male kindergarten teachers’ professional commitment can not only enrich the theories related to male kindergarten teachers’ professional communities and professional commitment,but also help improve the construction of male kindergarten teachers’ professional communities and help male kindergarten teachers clarify the benefits of professional communities in their own professional commitment.This study explored the relationship between professional community and male kindergarten teachers’ professional commitment,focusing on two issues: first,the extent of the influence of professional community on the professional commitment of male kindergarten teachers at the stages of adaptation exploration,professional growth,and professional maturity,and the reasons for it;second,how professional community enhances male kindergarten teachers’ professional commitment.This study interviewed 14 members of the male kindergarten teachers’ union in city N.The interviewees were interviewed across three stages of early childhood teacher development: the adaptation exploration stage,the professional growth stage,and the professional maturity stage.Using the research method of rooting theory,a large amount of information on professional community and professional commitment was obtained through the interviews and coded at three levels using NVivo 11.0software.The study found that male kindergarten teachers at each stage had different characteristics of professional commitment;professional community had a very strong influence on the professional commitment of male kindergarten teachers in the adaptation exploration stage,and the majority of them had a positive influence;professional The influence of the professional community on the professional commitment of male kindergarten teachers in the formative stage was significantly lower than that of the exploratory stage;the influence of the activities of the professional community on their professional commitment was minimal.The reasons for the influence of professional communities on male kindergarten teachers’ professional commitment include individual reasons,including enhancing professional competence,achieving professional development,and satisfying emotional communication;and organizational and management reasons,including the frequency,content,and operation mechanism of professional communities.Male kindergarten teachers at the three stages have different needs for professional communities,which are mainly divided into three areas of needs,including the needs for philosophy and competence,the needs for management system,and the needs for emotional communication.Based on the results of the study,suggestions were made to improve the construction of professional communities to promote the professional commitment of male kindergarten teachers: to open up the content of activities for members at different stages to meet their development needs;to reform the management mode of professional communities to give members management functions;to increase the frequency of open display activities to expand the influence of professional communities;and to enrich the interesting content of activities to promote the emotional communication of members.
