| The development of society has gradually increased the demand for comprehensive human resources, and people have begun to realize that the mere pursuit of mastering the knowledge and skills of one discipline can no longer meet the needs of society. In order to adapt to the development of society,higher-order thinking skills, which integrate multiple thinking skills, have been proposed and are considered to be the basic competency requirements of the 21 st century. Therefore, countries have begun to pay attention to the development of higher-order thinking skills, and the new curriculum standards for compulsory education promulgated in 2022 in China have established core literacy as the goal of teaching and learning,so the core of core literacy thinking skills have also received more and more attention. However, most of the research on higher-order thinking at home and abroad is focused on higher education, and there is a lack of research on the application of basic education, especially information technology courses, while many domestic and international studies show that thinking maps meet the cognitive development needs of primary and secondary school students and can effectively promote the development of students’ thinking skills. To this end, this study will investigate the effect of mind mapping on the development of higher-order thinking skills in the teaching process, and conduct a practical study of the elementary school IT curriculum as an example to provide new ideas for the development of higher-order thinking skills in the elementary school IT curriculum.According to the current situation of domestic and foreign research, this study takes the four thinking skills of "problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, and creative thinking" as the objectives of higher-order thinking.Based on constructivism theory, dual coding and Piaget’s cognitive development theory,we analyze the relationship between thinking maps and higher-order thinking skills development, and build a project-based teaching model integrating thinking maps with project-based learning as the main body and thinking maps as the supporting tool. The study was conducted with the fifth grade students of T Primary School in Suizhou City, and the teaching practice was carried out in the IT course, combining questionnaires, mind maps, project work and interviews to conduct evaluation and explore the effectiveness of mind maps on the development of higher-order thinking skills in the teaching process and the impact on students’ learning outcomes in the project-based teaching process. The three research questions in this paper were quasi-experimentally investigated to conclude that(1)Thinking maps promote the development of higher-order thinking skills, especially in the dimensions of critical and creative thinking;(2)Thinking maps improve student learning outcomes in project-based teaching;and(3)students are very willing to use thinking maps in their learning process. |
