In the "General High School Physics Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition,2020 revision)",scientific inquiry is listed as one of the core competencies of the subject,and the new curriculum standards clearly illustrates the importance of scientific inquiry from the level of learning content to learning methods.Experiments play a key role in the exploration of physical science in senior high school.The experiments part of the mechanics in the first year of high school are fundamental,including the data processing methods and scientific methods involved,which are all important methods commonly used in high school physics learning.In addition,senior one students are facing the transition from junior high school to high school.Strengthening the cultivation of students’ scientific inquiry ability at this stage can establish a foundation for students’ learning and inquiry later.Therefore,this research selects senior one students as the research objects,and conducts a practical research on the cultivation of scientific inquiry ability.This research adopts literature research method,interview method,experimental method and observation method to conduct research.Above all,the pre-test worksheets were issued to the students of the two classes in the first grade of the practice school,and were collected after the experiment.According to Official Scientific Inquiry Scoring Guide developed by the Oregon Department of Education towards senior one students,combined with the specific requirements of the experiment,the author developed detailed grading standards,and graded the worksheets filled in by students to evaluate the existing scientific inquiry ability of senior one students.Then through interviewing with the teachers,the current situation of the development and cultivation of the physical science inquiry ability of the senior one students in the surveyed class could be investigated clearly.According to the analysis of pre-test worksheets and teacher interviews,we found out some problems that we need to solve in the cultivation of senior one students’ scientific inquiry ability,and then proposed strategies to optimize the cultivation,as well as the corresponding worksheet-based teaching mode for cultivating students’ scientific inquiry ability,and then carried out the teaching practice.We carried out the instructional design according to the proposed strategies in advance,and designed worksheets used in class,guiding students to complete the worksheets in the process of inquiry.After the teaching practice,post-test worksheets were distributed to the experimental group and the control group,and their scores were analyzed to evaluate the students’ scientific inquiry ability after practice.We also conducted interviews with students in the experimental class to learn about the students’attitude towards the teaching model based on the worksheets to cultivate scientific inquiry ability,the specific impact of filling out the worksheet on the students’ scientific inquiry ability,and the students’ interest in physics.Finally,we summarized and analyzed the effect of the teaching practice.The conclusions of this study are as follows.First of all,the overall development level of scientific inquiry of senior one students is not high,and the individual abilities vary greatly.Most of the students are not proficient enough in handling experimental data,which leads to a lack of time in the communication and reflection session,resulting in low scores in the worksheets "collecting and presenting data" and "analyzing and interpreting results",which need to be cultivated and improved.Secondly,the limitation of students’ existing inquiry ability,the difficulty of maintaining classroom discipline,the requirements of teaching tasks and progress,and the limited laboratory and experimental instruments in schools are the main obstacles for teachers to guide students to carry out inquiry.These factors resulted in more guidance from teachers.Meanwhile,the opportunities for students to explore independently became less and less.The interview also reflects that teachers should pay more attention to study the relevant theories about scientific inquiry at a deeper level.Teachers lack targeted process evaluation of students’scientific inquiry ability,and need to enhance students’ interest in inquiry.Regarding the strategies for cultivating the scientific inquiry ability of senior one students,firstly,students should enhance their motivation to explore and actively participate in classroom inquiry,build solid knowledge foundation and strengthen the exercise of collecting and processing data.Students should also learn to control the process of inquiry and actively develop communication and reflection.In terms of teachers,teachers should strengthen theoretical study,cultivate students’ interest in inquiry,rationally use the time in and after class,and carry out process evaluation in the teaching process.Combined with these strategies,the teaching mode of cultivating the scientific inquiry ability of senior one students based on the worksheet is determined,so that students become the main body of inquiry.The worksheets are used as the carrier of inquiry tasks,so that it runs through before teaching,during teaching,and after teaching.In this way,the worksheets are used to evaluate the students’ scientific inquiry ability in a process,and also play the role of guiding and recording the students’ inquiry.By analyzing the scores of students’ worksheets after practice,it is found that the above models and strategies have played a promoting role in cultivating and improving the scientific inquiry ability of senior one students.Besides,through student interviews,we also found that guiding students to think and fill in worksheets in the process of inquiry also helps students to familiarize themselves with the inquiry process,actively form concepts,to form new concepts actively,and to enhance students’ interest in inquiry learning.
