With the acceleration of China’s economic development and urbanization process, the scale of the floating population continues to expand. As an important part of China’s labor force, its smooth entry into the urban labor market and stable employment are the realistic needs to realize the urbanization of the floating population, and are also the key concerns in China’s economic development. With the normalization of population flow and the change of migration pattern, family migration has become the main way of population flow.As one of the most common forms of family migration, children moving with them will bring a series of problems such as care, education and living expenses.Further, considering that the main purpose of the floating population moving to the city is to work, this paper links the family migration with the employment quality of the floating population and explores the impact of the children migration on the employment of the floating population. The theory of family life cycle points out that there are great stage differences in different family life course.Young children have higher requirements for family care, and school-age children will face problems such as going to school in different places. That is,at different stages of their children’s growth,family-employment conflicts will lead to changes in the employment trajectory of the floating population, which will face changes in the contradiction between family care, children’s education and employment.Based on this, this paper takes the family life cycle theory as the main line, combines the new economic migration theory and the work-family conflict theory to put forward six core assumptions, explores the impact on the employment quality of floating population in different stages of family migration, and puts forward relevant suggestions for the research results. This paper combines the dynamic monitoring data of the floating population in 2018 with the city statistical yearbook in 2018 as the database of this paper, establishes a multi-level linear model(HLM)to analyze the impact of children’s migration on the employment status of the floating population, introduces grandparents’ migration and policy support to further expand the impact mechanism, and based on the family life cycle theory, divides the migration into stages to explore the differences of each stage. The results show that: First, the children’s migration has a significant negative effect on the employment quality of the floating population, and the smaller the children’s age,the greater the negative effect;Secondly, the migration of grandparents can significantly improve the employment quality of the floating population, and the effectiveness of the family support mechanism can effectively regulate the family-work conflict caused by the migration of children, but there are significant differences in each stage;Thirdly, the policy support of school entrance into the city has a significant positive effect on the employment quality of the floating population, and it is most significant in the families with children of school age.Based on the above conclusions, this paper puts forward to strengthen the support for the caregivers of children who move with them, and to construct a multi-dimensional integrated care system.Safeguarding the basic rights and interests of grandparents’ care subjects, and moderately developing grandparents’ inter-generational care;Expanding the educational supply and ensuring the educational equity of the children who move with them.
