Abstract/Summary:
With the development of the times and the progress of science and technology, the competence to solve problems across disciplines is increasingly important. The cultivation of students’ interdisciplinary practical competence has become an important task of international science education. The Compulsory Education Physics Curriculum Standard(2022 Edition)explicitly considers physics and engineering practice as one of the three themes of interdisciplinary practice. However,at present, the connotation of interdisciplinary practical competence in physics and engineering is not clear, the assessment tools are lacking, and the performance of middle school students is not clear, which seriously limits the design and implementation of relevant interdisciplinary activities,so it is necessary to carry out research on it.In view of the practical needs of teaching practice, this study focuses on the main question "How to assess the interdisciplinary practical competence of physics and engineering of middle school students?" In this paper,we define the performance assessment framework of interdisciplinary practical competence in physics and engineering, develop the corresponding assessment tools and test the performance characteristics of middle schools.First of all, based on the existing interdisciplinary competence assessment framework and combining the characteristics of physics and engineering disciplines, this paper determines the performance assessment framework of physics and engineering interdisciplinary practical competence from two dimensions: content and level. The content dimension includes four competence elements: system analysis, interdisciplinary investigation, key demonstration and knowledge integration, and each element includes three levels in level dimension.Secondly, based on the framework, through two rounds of empirical test adjustment, the physics and engineering interdisciplinary assessment tool is developed, which contains 22 open questions. The Rasch model was used as the measurement model to analyze the interdisciplinary practical competence of physics and engineering of 712 students in grade 8 and grade 10.The results show that the developed assessment tool has good reliability and validity, and can accurately evaluate the interdisciplinary practical competence of physics and engineering of middle school students. Then, through the excavation of the students’ answer results,it clearly describes the performance of the students’ interdisciplinary practical competence of physics and engineering. The overall performance of middle school students is below the average level.Students in grade 8 mainly show that they can initially think about problems from two perspectives of physics and engineering, and answer the physics content and engineering content involved in the questions respectively(Level 1).Their performance in grade 10 is significantly better than that in grade 8.The competence to begin to integrate and apply physics and engineering to solve simple practical problems(Level 2).Grade 8 and grade 10 showed differences in the relative performance of various competence elements.Grade 8 performed relatively well in "key demonstration" and "knowledge integration",while Grade 10 performed relatively well in "key demonstration" and "interdisciplinary investigation".
