Currently, the development of economic zones has been elevated to a national strategy. The most developed economic zones in the country are mainly the Yangtze River Delta,Pearl River Delta, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The construction of these three major economic zones has been ongoing for over a decade.More than ten years have passed,so what are the effects of the construction of these economic zones on labor market integration within the zones? Have the expected results been achieved? If not, what improvements should be made in the future? In response to the above-mentioned issues, this article, based on theoretical analysis, uses the relative price method to separately calculate the degree of labor market integration in the three major economic circles over the past 15 years, analyzing the level of labor market integration in each economic circle.Secondly, using the construction of each economic circle as a time node, the synthetic control method is used to evaluate the impact of the construction of the three major economic circles on the integration of the labor market. The placebo test and permutation test are used to test the validity of the evaluation results, and the propensity matching double difference method is used to test the robustness of the evaluation results, and each control variable’s impact on labor market integration is analyzed one by one.The results of the synthetic control method show that:(1)The construction of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Economic Circle has significantly improved the degree of labor market integration among the 13 cities within the economic circle.(2)The construction of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle has a relatively small promotion effect on the labor market integration among the 30 cities within the economic circle specified by policies, but it has a significant promotion effect on the other 26 cities within the economic circle except for the four cities in Anhui.(3)There is no significant difference between the cities inside and outside the Pearl River Delta Economic Circle before and after the construction of the economic circle.Next, the moderating effect model was used to verify the three mechanisms by which the economic circle construction promotes labor market integration. The results show that: For the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Economic Circle, economic connections have a positive promoting effect on the labor market integration of the 13 cities within the region.Easy transportation in the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle facilitates the integration of the labor market in the 25 cities in the area, whereas economic interdependence hinders such integration within the region. In conclusion, this article’s research findings are utilized in conjunction with the present state of affairs in China to formulate corresponding policy recommendations:(1)accelerate the implementation of small county mergers in Hebei Province, improve Hebei Province’s capacity for industrial transfer from Beijing and Tianjin, and reasonably increase the degree of industrial division of labor in the Beijing-TianjinHebei region;(2)promote the coordinated growth of social security levels in the three cities of Beijing,Tianjin, and Hebei, and improve the degree of labor market integration in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei economic circle;(3)optimize the unreasonable industrial division of labor in the Yangtze River Delta region, promote the transfer of backward industries from developed coastal areas to the inland, and achieve the rational allocation and flow of labor factors;(4)break down the inter-provincial barriers to labor mobility and focus on the important role of Anhui Province in the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta;(5)rely on the development strategy of the Pearl River Delta integration, strengthen social security for labor in various regions, and give full play to the stable and promotional role of coordinated development in labor market integration.
