Expression is expressing one’s thoughts, opinions, feelings, etc.,through words, actions, emotions, artistic phrases, etc.,to make them known to others or society. As a fundamental right of children,"children’s right to the expression" requires the protection and guidance of adults to ensure that children actively express their views, emotions, and opinions in "various forms" and are free from undue interference and infringement.Expression for children is not only about children being proactive but also about their voices being heard and treated appropriately.Since the publication of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, more and more researchers have paid attention to the study and protection of children’s rights, with articles 12 and 13,among others, contributing to the protection of children’s right to expression. This paper investigated the realization of children’s expression in large and middle classes by using observation, interviews, and questionnaires, and finds the following two problems. On the one hand, there is a gap between the ideal state of children’s expression and the reality of expression: in the spatial dimension, children’s personality, characteristics, and performance in life affect the equal opportunity of expression;in the vocal dimension, teachers pay more attention to children’s verbal expression, while children lack the opportunity to make their own decisions. On the other hand, teachers were in a state of "passive listening" and had difficulty supporting children’s expressions: on the listening dimension, teachers were often passive in their interactions, understanding and listening to children’s various expressions at a superficial level;on the support dimension, teachers did not fully utilize response and environmental strategies to support children’s expression. We analyzed the reasons for the lack of children’s expression and teachers’ listening with the core elements of "children’s expression," including four conflicts:first, the conflict between "teacher authority" and "democratic equality.First, the conflict between "teacher authority" and "democratic equality";second, the conflict between children’s "maximization of interests" and "autonomous expression";third, the conflict between teachers’ professional competence and educational practice;and fourth, the conflict between the high degree of control and flexibility and openness. In this regard,we suggest four aspects to improve children’s freedom of expression further: first,we should build an understanding of "children’s right to the expression"and consciously guarantee children’s freedom of expression;second,to realize children’s rich expression,we should carry out flexible and elastic activities to ensure children’s diversity of expression;Third,we should improve teachers’ listening literacy, pay attention to their teaching practices, and build a listening community with children;fourth,we should give teachers autonomy and reduce their unnecessary burden.;fourth, teachers should be free to reduce their unnecessary burdens.
