Executive Function(EF)refers to the mental process by which an individual mobilizes and coordinates multiple cognitive functions(including working memory, inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility)in action to complete a certain task. The development of EF has an important impact on preschoolers’ school readiness, social adjustment and future academic achievement,so it has aroused extensive attention in the field of cognitive development of young children.Since the participation of motivation and emotions can stimulate the efficient execution of individuals when completing a task, paying attention to the influence of emotions and motivation on EF is a key issue worth exploring in the process of improving behavioral performance. This study used real events to induce children’s two emotions of surprise and disappointment, and explored the effects of different emotional states on the core components of cold and hot EF: cognitive flexibility, reactive inhibition and interference inhibition through three sets of experiments corresponding to cold and hot.Experiment 1: Cognitive flexibility experiment. To explore whether different emotional states affect children’s performance of cognitive flexibility in hot and cold EF.The children in the positive emotion group and the negative emotion group completed the dimensional change card sort and the dimensional change card sort with reinforcement rewards respectively, and recorded the number of cards with correct classification. The experimental results showed that positive emotions promoted children’s cognitive flexibility performance.Experiment 2: Reactive inhibition experiment. To explore whether different emotional states affect children’s performance of reactive inhibitory in cold and hot EF.The children in the positive emotion group and the negative emotion group completed the hand game and the hand game with reinforcement rewards respectively, and recorded the number of correct opposite hand gestures. The experimental results showed that the children’s reactive inhibition performance under positive emotions was significantly better than the performance in negative emotional states, and this phenomenon was more obvious in the hot version of the task.Experiment 3: Interference inhibition experiment. To explore whether different emotional states affect children’s performance of interfering inhibition in cold and hot EF.The children in the positive emotion group and the negative emotion group completed the Navon number task and the Navon number task with reinforcement reward respectively, and recorded the total number of correctly spoken numbers. The experimental results showed that the performance of children under positive and negative emotions was basically the same, and the emotional state did not have a significant differential effect on the children’s interference inhibition level.Based on the above results and analysis, the following educational suggestions are put forward on how to promote the development of young children’s EF under the influence of emotional state: pay attention to the influence of emotions on EF,and promote the virtuous cycle development of children in parallel with dual paths;encourage young children to participate in sports games to improve emotional state and promote the development of EF;families, kindergartens and society need to work together to comprehensively promote the development of young children’s EF.
