| With the development of technology and the enhancement of game interactivity, online games have gradually transformed from a simple entertainment and leisure tool to a communication medium with social attributes, becoming a social way for players in both virtual and real space. In colleges and universities,in addition to being a daily entertainment and social activity for individual students, online games have become an important form of team activity for student associations with their popularity and sociality. This study takes the influence of the social nature of online games on real groups as the theme and the characteristics of group cohesion as the perspective of observing groups, and chooses the widely existing student association groups in colleges and universities as the research object. This study adopts a combination of questionnaire survey and in-depth interview. In the questionnaire survey, the Group Environment Questionnaire revised by Ma Hongyu in 2008 was used as the measurement scale of group cohesion, and its applicability was tested for reliability and validity, and the results showed that the scale had good reliability and validity in this study. The findings of this study contain four main aspects.First, online games,as a form of team activities, have good practice process and individual evaluation, and online game team activities create a relaxed group atmosphere and play its positive role of promoting socialization, providing fun and enhancing relationships.Secondly, participants of online game team activities have high individual perceptions of group cohesion, and game participants have strong interest in association activities, consider their associations to have strong social ties and a close and harmonious group atmosphere, and have a strong sense of identity and responsibility for group tasks.Again, the use of online games as a form of team activity has a statistically significant positive impact on the level of group cohesion in college student associations.Online game participants had higher mean group cohesion cognitive scores than nonparticipants, and whether or not they participated in online games differed significantly on four sub-dimensions of group social attraction, group task attraction, group social identity, and group task identity,as well as on overall cognitive categories. Finally, the mechanism by which online games affect group cohesion is that they influence group cohesion through the direct effect on relational cohesion and the indirect effect on task cohesion, where social relations are the fulcrum of online games affecting group cohesion and are the intrinsic driver of group cohesion, while task cohesion is indirectly enhanced through the mediation of social relations. The virtuous cycle of social relationship and group task promotes each other,so that group cohesion is continuously generated, strengthened and effective, thus contributing to the long-term stable development of the group. The significance of this study is to connect online games with social interaction, group cohesion, and college student associations.Under the research vein of online games and social interaction, the impact of social nature of online games on real groups is explored from the perspective of group cohesion, and the mechanism of its impact is analyzed. In the study of group cohesion, online games and college student associations are introduced as an expansion of activity types and group types, and the perception of group cohesion of members is analyzed at the micro-individual level. The activity scenarios and subject perceptions of associations are presented at the micro-individual level in the study of college student associations, and the inner dynamics of student association development are explored from the perspective of social relationships. The study also provides ideas on how to improve the cohesion of student associations in the new media environment so that they can better perform their nurturing function and promote student development. |
