In recent years, the importance of gender equality education in the existing education system has continued to emerge,China Women’s Development Program(2021-2030)clearly states, should "promote extensive gender equality education at all levels and in all types of schools","explore the construction of an educational model for gender equality that combines school education, family education, and social education".Adolescence is a critical period for gender socialization.Social work involvement in gender equality education for adolescents not only helps to cultivate gender equality awareness and promote healthy development of adolescents, but also helps to prevent and reduce the phenomenon of gender discrimination and gender bullying among youth groups. This study is guided by gender socialization theory and cognitive-behavioral theory, and use a combination of questionnaire, interview, scale, and observation methods to assess the needs of gender equality education for adolescents in W communities. The survey find that adolescents of different genders have different gender concepts and behaviors, and there are differences in gender knowledge needs between the two genders, but there are commonalities in gender education goals.Accordingly, this study attempts to introduce parallel group design into adolescent gender equality education services, dividing group members into two parallel but related groups based on gender.Through four gender-specific group activities, adolescents are able to think about their own gender socialization process by gender and learn to understand their own gender issues objectively;through four joint group activities, adolescents are promoted to better understand gender differences, learn to respect the opposite sex,and improve their ability to handle gender relations.Based on the needs assessment, this study designed a service program and used various activities such as scenario simulation, fun games and case sharing to carry out services in the areas of gender equality awareness,self-gender identity, gender difference understanding, gender inequality analysis and gender inequality resolution, and tested the effectiveness of the services through quasi-experimental research method. The results of the effectiveness evaluation show that social work interventions in gender equality education for adolescents through parallel groups have a positive impact on adolescents’ attitudes toward gender equality. This indicates that the parallel group approach is applicable to gender equality education for adolescent groups. This study uses the parallel group approach to intervene in gender equality education for adolescents, which is innovative in terms of practice methods. The results of this study contribute to the expansion of the parallel group approach in the field of social work practice, and help to increase the diversity of interventions in gender equality education for adolescents.
