Population is the main carrier of regional factor flows and resource allocation, and is a significant form of constructing regional networks that can reasonably and appropriately characterise regional status. As China’s regional development level continues to rise, the development and use of land resources is more active than ever before, and multi-functional land use is now an inevitable path to achieve sustainable development. Therefore, exploring the relationship between people and land and carrying out coupled research on population mobility and land multifunctionality can help to achieve a harmonious development of the relationship between people and land.By relevanting national and international research, this paper, theory based on the multifunctional use of land, coupled coordination theory and human-land relations theory,a network of population movements and evaluates multi-functional rural land use based on the coupled coordination system of population mobility and multi-functional rural land use, taking 31 regions in the Mid-Yangtze River City Group as research units, and uses a coupled coordination model to further clarify whether the two The coupled coordination model is used to further clarify whether there is interaction between the two,and whether the effects are mutually reinforcing or inhibiting.Firstly,an analysis of the spatial pattern of population mobility in 31 units of study in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration;secondly, the assessment process of rural land functions is constructed and the weights of indicators are calculated to measure and evaluate rural land use multifunctionality;finally, the population movement network and rural land use multifunctionality within the urban agglomeration are analysed, and the two are coupled and coordinated through a coupled coordination model to measure and evaluate. The coupled and coordinated spatial patterns and features of population mobility and rural land use multifunctionality in the Triangle of Central China are explored, and corresponding research results are derived. The main findings are as follows:(1)The population flow of urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River mainly takes Wuhan,Nanchang, and Changsha as the core nodes, which are highly influential and have a strong radiation effect, and are also important nodes for communication between their urban sub-groups and other cities outside. In terms of centrality,Wuhan and Changsha have relatively high centrality, while Nanchang has relatively low centrality, and the driving effect of the centrality on the surrounding cities is also relatively weak and not obvious, and needs to be further enhanced in terms of economy, culture and talents. In terms of the strength of population mobility links, the population mobility network shows a clear "pin" pattern of development, with cities within each sub-group having stronger population links and cities across sub-groups having weaker population links, and the strength of population links at the border between provinces is weaker than that of cities within provinces.(2)The analysis of the multi-functionality of rural land use is divided into three parts, namely, social function, economic function and environmental function. In terms of social functions, the overall level of social functions of rural land has a stable trend, but there are differences among the subgroups, mainly in a "zigzag" distribution.Among them, the overall level of agricultural production function of land in the city cluster around Changzhutan is better, while the social function of rural land in Wuhan city circle is relatively weaker and needs to be improved in the overall level. In addition, the social function of rural land in the Poyang Lake Urban Agglomeration is not obvious compared with the other two sub-groups.In terms of economic functions, the economic function scores of most of the regions are increasing year by year, which to a certain extent reflects the progressive development of the economic functions of rural land in the Triangle of Central China.Just environmental functions, the environmental functions of rural land in most of the Yangtze River Central River urban agglomeration are slowly declining, and the proportion of environmental functions of rural land is generally low,but the difference in function scores between regions is not large. In other words, the overall level of rural land environmental function does not fluctuate much, with a higher distribution of higher level grades, but there is also a certain regional gap,and the changes and gaps between functional areas need to be narrowed.(3)The coupling and coordination between the population mobility network and rural land functions can reflect whether population mobility and rural land functions interact with each other and whether the systems are mutually reinforcing or constraining. The higher the degree of coordination, the higher the correlation between population mobility networks and rural land use functions;while the lower the degree of coordination, the lower the correlation between population mobility networks and rural land use. This paper will explore the coupling coordination between population mobility networks and rural land use functions into five states: near dissonance, low coordination, moderate coordination, high coordination and high quality coordination.Among the regions in the high quality coordination state are Wuhan,Nanchang and Changsha, where the central city features are obvious and there is mutual promotion between population mobility and the social, economic and environmental functions of land. Some of the regions that are far from the central cities are constrained by factors such as agricultural employment, geographical location, transportation network and land resources, and have lower indices of social, economic and environmental functions, which are not conducive to the development of coupling and coordination between population mobility and rural land use functions. In addition, for some regions with low coupling coordination,it may be that the region is well developed and the rural land function is weak,or that the region is poorly developed and the land function is good, which may also lead to uncoordinated development between the population mobility network and the rural land function, and poor human-land coupling.
