As the highest-level group of academic education in various countries,doctoral students play an important role in the country’s major scientific and technological innovation and original knowledge production.With the continuous expansion of the scale of Ph D worldwide and the demand for high-quality talents in the new round of scientific and technological revolution,the negative effects of the quality crisis of doctoral training in China are becoming increasingly prominent.Academia generally criticizes doctoral students for failing to master the core competencies required for academic careers;industry companies also question his lack of professional competence for relevant positions.Judging from the status quo,colleges and universities and research institutes are still the main places for doctoral students to choose their careers,accounting for about 57%.Therefore,doctoral students must master the basic knowledge,skills,and values for academic occupations;at the same time,the employment trend caused by the expansion of scale is diversified and the group of doctoral students overflowing academic occupations,masters in various positions such as administration,production,design,or research and development.The basic ability to engage in an academic career is also crucial to its career development.So,does the group of doctoral students now have the basic ability to engage in academic careers? The answer to this question involves the profound academic issue of academic career socialization.It is generally believed that the socialization of academic careers refers to the process or state of academics or academic career candidates learning the knowledge,skills and tendencies necessary for academic careers.Based on this,this study focuses on clarifying three issues:thethe academic professional socialization level of doctoral students in China,the key factors affecting their academic professional socialization level,and the reasons behind the problems in the current academic professional socialization level.Combining relevant theories,this research compiled a questionnaire to measure the level of academic professional socialization from the three dimensions of knowledge ability,value norms,and emotional attitudes,and explore the status quo and influencing factors of academic professional socialization of academic doctoral students in China,and Combining qualitative interviews to explore the causes behind the crisis,and put forward effective coping strategies.The statistical results show that:(1)The status quo: Generally speaking,academic doctoral students have a relatively high level of academic professional socialization,of which the level of value norms is the highest,the level of knowledge and ability is second,and the level of emotional attitude is the lowest;in terms of specific dimensions,their teaching ability,The sense of belonging to scientific research,the identity of scientific research value and academic ideals need to be strengthened.(2)In terms of characteristics of differences:academic doctoral students with different economic status,grades,motivations for Ph D,there is a significant difference in the level value of academic professional socialization;there are some significant differences in the level values of different genders,ages,subject categories,postponed and not postponed;but there is no significant difference in the level of different types of institutions and parental education.(3)Influencing factors:(1)In terms of individual factors,in addition to the variables of scientific research input,factors such as personal academic participation,academic interest,psychological quality and interpersonal relationships have a significant positive effect on the academic professional socialization level of academic doctoral students Influence;among them,academic interest has a higher positive explanatory power.(2)In terms of organizational environment factors,college culture,institutional policies,academic career support,and tutor guidance all have a significant positive impact on the academic professional socialization level of academic doctoral students,among which tutor guidance has a higher explanatory power.Furthermore,through qualitative interviews to explore the causes behind the crisis,it is found that the lack of academic career support has caused the "narrowing" of the ability of academic doctoral students;the complex utilitarian motives of this group’s Ph D.The academic cognition of this group is biased,which easily leads to a weak sense of research identity and belonging;moreover,the influence of the academic environment on the socialization of its academic profession cannot be ignored,and it has a certain cooling effect;the mentor factor has a significant influence,but in reality,the mentor The guidance is quite different.Finally,in response to the aforementioned problems,focus on the governance path to improve the academic professional socialization of doctoral students from the perspective of the training unit,that is,control at the source,establish a selective selection mechanism,and stimulate students’ academic interest;in the training process,pay attention Provide strong organizational support for differences between different groups;in terms of mentors,strengthen the management of the mentor team and enhance the role of mentors in educating people;in terms of environmental support,optimize the academic environment atmosphere and increase the attractiveness of academic careers;in terms of guiding and distributing,establish diversion and elimination Mechanism to build a follow-up investigation system for doctoral students. |
