The high-quality development of higher education is a goal pursued by many countries and regions.Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is a project to promote the development of higher education.Excellence in teaching and learning is its core goal.It has great significance in how to improve the excellence in teaching and learning as well as the quality of higher education.At present,the development of higher education Chinese universities is in the stage of upgrading and exploratory.Carrying out research on the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning could provide reference for Chinese higher education,ensure steady progress in the teaching development and improve the quality of higher education in China.This study is divided into six parts,including the background,the formation,the implementation and the development of the project,the case study of the "University of Nottingham Visual Learning Laboratory Project",the evaluation of the project and its inspiration.Research methods such as content analysis,case study and comparative study are used.The first part discusses the background of the Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Project,illustrated the background of the program from the political party changes,the development and growth of the middle class,the profound changes in the socioeconomic environment and economic policies,and the important opportunities and challenges faced by the development of education.The second part reviews the process of the project from proposed the idea for the first time,to gradually investigated and demonstrated,and finally to finalized the complete implementation project.The third part introduces the whole process of the implementation and development of the project,including the bidding standards,methods and procedures,funding standards,feedback on bidding results,follow-up development and evaluation.In the fourth part,focuses on the case study of the Visual Learning Laboratory of the University of Nottingham,introduces its development,and analyzes its excellent teaching reform in the aspects of visual learning and teaching researches,development of visual learning technology and dissemination of excellent visual learning practices.Provide a case study and summary basis for the research.The fifth part summarizes the characteristics,impacts,issues and disputes of the project.Grasp the overall effectiveness of the program in improving teaching quality,students learning experience,teachers development,teaching outcomes and human capital cultivation.And summarize the problems caused by the lack of long-term effectiveness and overall development strategy of the plan.It helps to lay the foundation for the study of China’s higher education development.The sixth part is a comparative study of the British Higher Education and the actual development of China’s Higher Education,and draw on the experience and enlightenment of the project,and put forward suggestions for reform in teaching development,teacher training,student training,etc.
