Multimodal Discourse Analysis Of The Opening Ceremony Of The Beijing Winter Olympics

With the continuous progress of global science and technology,the way of cultural communication has broken through the limitation of single language communication information,and can form dynamic discourse through the combination of language,image and sound to realize the all-round dissemination of cultural significance.As an important shaping object of cross-cultural communication,national cultural image can be constructed through official media,folk film and television works and other forms.In the opening ceremony of major international sports events,the cultural consciousness of the country can be subtly accepted by the viewers,which is another important way to shape the national cultural image and cross-cultural communication.As the host country of the 24 th Winter Olympic Games,it is of great research value to use the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games for potential external publicity.This paper intends to take the opening ceremony of Beijing Winter Olympics as the research object,and uses multimodal discourse analysis to analyze the visual,linguistic and auditory modes of the opening ceremony.The analysis content includes video screenshots,commentary,music,etc.,and discusses the following questions :1.What is the meaning of visual mode,linguistic mode and auditory mode of the opening ceremony;2.What kind of Chinese cultural image is shaped by the interaction between multiple modes.This paper is divided into six chapters.The introduction part mainly introduces the research background,research purpose and significance,research questions,research methods and literature review.The second chapter analyzes the representational meaning,interactive meaning and compositional meaning of the opening ceremony live broadcast from the visual modality level;chapter Three analyzes the ideational function,interpersonal function and textual function of commentaries from the perspective of linguistic mode.The fourth chapter analyzes the meaning construction of simultaneous sound,background music and sound effects from the perspective of auditory modality.The fifth chapter analyzes the multimodal meaning construction of the opening ceremony,and analyzes the meaning of multimodal interaction.Finally,in the sixth chapter,the specific conclusions of Chinese cultural image are drawn and the limitations of the research are analyzed.Through the multimodal discourse analysis of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games,the author concludes that the Chinese cultural image is still displayed in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
